This study started a personal concern upon the possibility between any theological teaching from the past and its contemporary application n terms of fusion of horizons as Hans-Georg Gadamer said in his book Truth and Method. Especially, an intensive interest about academic exploration what the churches will be supposed to do in the future considering pandemic situation. Based on such background, the first step was to describe the details of socio-cultural flows from the late Medieval periods to the Protestant Reformation era as precursor of the German Pietism in the 17th century. According to this type of methodology, many features of German Pietism revealed some potential involvements to the contemporary Korean churches which have been going through pandemic agony. Rather than ignoring such similarities without any effort of fusion between two different historical incidents, this study chose to make them in the mutual interrelationship and tried to develop a creative perspective for the young generations of the Korean churches. Although this study will not be the only answer for the raised issue, it might a bridge for the more academic results which contribute to an effective overcoming of the current disease and preparation of the Korean churches’ future.

감염병 사태가 이어지고 지구 곳곳에서 이상 기온과 경제공황이 발생하면서 과거 에 생각하지 못한 삶의 변화가 동시다발적으로 나타나고 있으며, 이는 다시 낯선 신 학적 주제에 관한 연구 당위성을 부여하는 직접적인 원인으로 작용하고 있다. 그러나 교회사를 돌이켜보면 이렇게 긴박한 역사적 전환은 수시로 나타난 현실 중 하나였다. 정도와 과정의 차이가 있지만, 인류 역사는 끊임없는 변화의 화두를 근본적으로 내포 하고 있으며 교회 전통은 이에 대한 응답을 반복하면서 외연 확장을 지속했기 때문이 다. 그런 차원에서 과거로부터 계승된 방식을 일신하며 역사적 전환을 시도한 신학적 활동은 도전의 동기와 혁신의 동력을 제공하는 한편, 젊은이들의 인생 향방을 결정하 는 구성요소로 작용하는 경우가 많다. 17세기 독일에서 발생한 경건주의 운동은 그런 맥락에서 뉴노멀 시대의 젊은 신자 들에게 접목 가능한 여러 교훈을 포함하고 있다. 종교개혁 발발 후 100여 년의 시간 이 흐르며, 개혁의 본래 정신이 퇴색하는 현실을 개탄한 이들의 저항과 도전 의식 그 리고 신앙공동체의 사회적 역할을 위한 창의적 재해석이 경건주의 운동의 선구자들에게 고스란히 녹아있는 까닭이다. 본 연구는 근대사회로 넘어가는 과도기였던 17세기 독일 경건주의 운동이 지닌 사회적 역할을 간략히 서술한 후, 21세기 뉴노멀 시대에 접목 가능한 실천신학적 강조점에 집중했다. 여기에는 기독교 신학과 영성을 매개로 한국교회 젊은이들에게 집중하는 상징적 표현들이 숨어있다. 물론 경건주의에 관한 연구가 익숙하다는 점과 서로 다른 상황을 연결하는 방법론에 피로를 느낄 수도 있음 을 잘 알고 있다. 그러나 현재진행 중인 감염병 상황이 미래 세대를 위한 실천신학적 책임을 강하게 요구하고 있음을 결코 외면해서는 안 된다.
