The Changes in Properties of the Hovering Performance of Quadcopter by Rotor Distance

This paper describes the conceptual design and performance evaluation of a personal air vehicle(PAV), which is selected as one of the major futuristic individual transportation. In this study, blade element theory(BET) was used to find a standard rotate speed, and a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation was used to see the difference of the thrust performance in terms of rotor axis distance of quadcopter shape PAV in hover mode. The commercial ANSYS-FLUENT program was used to generate the CFD data. Modal analysis was used to calculate rotor dynamics and make Campbell diagram to find critical speed. The results showed that changes in the rotor axis distance clearly affect the aerodynamics thrust and critical speed of a quadcopter PAV.
