The purpose of this study is to examine the research trends of Korean elementary school textbooks. To this end, I analyzed the contents of a total of 254 papers published in the journals of the National Research Foundation of Korea from 2007 to 2018. Analysis criteria were the number of papers published, analysis medium, researcher affiliation, research support, analysis content, and analysis method. As a result of the analysis, studies dealing with elementary school Korean textbooks were mostly on paper textbooks, and the most published research was conducted in 2009-2014. In particular, theses during this period received the most research grants. From 2015-2018, the number of joint research projects involving multiple researchers increased. This is the result of reflecting the social demand for the necessity of collaborative research. However, there was also a characteristic that the number of studies that teachers participated in gradually decreased, indicating that the educational field was not actively reflected. Some studies were found to be limited to flat analysis based on the simple content analysis method. Researchers generally focused on analyzing the ‘content’ of textbooks, which can be understood as a result of interest in subject development.

본 연구의 목적은 국내 초등 국어교과서의 연구경향을 살펴보는 데 있다. 이를 위해 2007년부터 2018년까지 한국연 구재단 등재지에 게재된 총 254개 논문들을 대상으로 내용을 분석하였다. 분석기준은 게재논문수, 연구매체, 연구자소 속, 연구지원 여부, 연구내용, 연구방법 등이었다. 분석결과 초등 국어교과서를 다룬 연구는 대체로 종이교과서에 관한 것이었는데, 2009-2014년 기간에 가장 많이 발표되었다. 이 기간에 발표된 논문들의 연구비지원 건수가 특히 높게 나타났다. 2015-2018년 기간에는 복수의 연구자들이 참여하는 공동 연구들이 수가 많이 게재되었다. 이는 협업 연구의 필요성에 대한 사회적 요구를 반영한 결과라고 하겠다. 다만 교사들이 참여한 연구들은 감소추세를 보이면서 교육현장을 적극 반영되지 못하는 현상도 보였다. 일부 연구물들은 단순내용분석 방법에 의거해 평면분석에 그친 것으로 나타났다. 또한 연구들은 대체로 교과서의 ‘내용’을 분석하는데 주력하였는데, 이는 교과목개발에 관한 연구자 들의 높은 관심을 반영한 것으로 이해할 수 있다.
