The purpose of this study is to seek development tasks to revitalize democratic citizenship education in Jeollabuk-do. To this end, the status of democratic citizenship education programs operated by lifelong education institutions in Jeollabuk-do was examined, and interviews were conducted with officials operating democratic citizenship education programs. As a result of the study, the development tasks are as follows. First, through the agreement of members of society, the concept of democratic citizenship education that anyone can easily understand should be defined and the necessity should be re-recognized. Second, it is necessary to promote democratic citizenship education and increase participation by providing a platform that can easily grasp information on the operation status of democratic citizenship education. Third, it must be a lifelong education throughout all generations. Fourth, various programs should be developed through feasibility tests to see if the subject and content of democratic citizenship education are appropriate. Fifth, an institutionalized organizational system is needed so that democratic citizenship education can be systematically activated.

본 연구는 전북지역 민주시민교육을 활성화하기 위한 발전과제를 모색하는 데 목적이 있 다. 이를 위해 전북지역 평생교육기관의 민주시민교육 프로그램 운영 현황을 살펴보고 민주시민 교육 프로그램을 운영하는 관계자를 대상으로 면담을 진행하였다. 연구 결과 발전과제는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 사회구성원의 합의를 통해 누구나 쉽게 이해할 수 있는 민주시민교육 개념을 정의 하고 필요성을 재인식시켜야 한다. 둘째, 민주시민교육의 운영 현황 정보를 손쉽게 파악할 수 있는 플랫폼을 제공하여, 민주시민교육을 홍보하고 참여도를 높여야 한다. 셋째, 전 세대에 걸쳐 평생동안 이루어지는 교육이어야 한다. 넷째, 민주시민교육의 주제와 내용이 적합한지 타당성 검사를 통해 다양한 프로그램을 개발해야 한다. 다섯째, 민주시민교육이 체계적으로 활성화될 수 있도록 제도화된 조직체계가 필요하다.
