The purpose of this study is to analyze Japanese intermediate Korean learners' use patterns of back-channel in Korean discourses and develop basic research data for the practical education for conversational reaction, by focusing on the fact that the existing Korean language education for back-channel utterances has been biased toward vocabulary-centered education. This paper, therefore, examined the definitions and functions of both Korean and Japanese back-channel and largely divided the scope of back-channels into 'concord' and 'induction'. It recorded the discourse in which four Japanese intermediate Korean learners participated and analyzed the use frequency of verbal/non-verbal aspects and the transcript. The findings showed that the Japanese learners avoided the use of back-channel utterances through repetition and paraphrase, and the usage's tendency was biased toward response token. This may be because of lack of knowledge and training. It thus suggested that the education for conversational reaction needs to be established by escaping from the existing vocabulary-centered education, based on the analysis on learners' use patterns of them.

본 연구는 기존의 맞장구 표현에 대한 한국어 교육이 어휘적 관점의 교육에 치우쳐있음에 주목하여, 일본어권 학습자를 대상으로 한국어 담화 상에서의 맞장구 사용 양상을 분석하여 실제적인 맞장구 교육을 위한 기초 연구 자료를 마련하는 데 목적을 둔다. 이에 본 연구에서는 한국어와 일본어의 맞장구의 정의와 기능을 살펴보고 크게 ‘호응’과 ‘유도’로 맞장구의 범위를 구분하였다. 그리고 4명의 일본인 학습자를 대상으로담화를 녹취하고 언어적‧비언어적 측면의 사용 빈도수와 전사 내용을 분석하였다. 그결과를 통해 일본인 학습자들이 반복과 환언을 통한 맞장구 표현의 사용을 회피하고있으며, 응답사에 편향하여 맞장구를 사용하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이에 대한 원인은학습자들의 한국어 맞장구에 대한 지식의 부족으로 볼 수 있다. 따라서 기존의 어휘적관점에서의 교육에서 벗어나, 학습자의 사용 양상 분석을 토대로 한 맞장구 교육이 필요함을 제안하였다.
