This study aimed to investigate students' perceptions of the uses of Taekwondo terms in the Taekwondo Department and examine their perceptions of the Taekwondo terms established anew, the actual uses of the terms in the field, and problems with the uses of the terms. For these purposes, five participants were selected who met the requirements including ten years of Taekwondo training or longer, the 4th Dan Black Belt or higher, and college students attending the Taekwondo Department. As for methodology, a semi-structured in-depth interview was conducted. The data collected from interviews with the participants was processed several times by the consultation and testing of an expert group, which was comprised of a Taekwondo professor, a doctor in Taekwondo studies, and a former member of a national Taekwondo demonstration team and current doctor in Taekwondo studies. The data was analyzed in an inductive method and led to the following findings: first, the participants perceived the standardized Taekwondo terms via various routes and felt no great need to use the new terms; secondly, they used the new Taekwondo terms mixed with the old ones in the field in many cases and a lot of loanwords, abbreviations, and terms of other sports for sparring and breaking terms of Taekwondo; and finally, the participants pointed out instructors' uses of non-standardized terms as a problem with the uses of Taekwondo terms.

이 연구는 태권도 용어 사용에 대한 태권도학과 학생들의 인식에 관한 연구로 새롭게 정립된 태권도 용어에 대한 학생들의 인식과 현장에서의 용어 사용실태, 용어 사용의 문제점 등을 알아보는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 연구참여자 선정은 태권도 수련 기간이 10년 이상, 태권도 4단 이상, 태권도학과에 재학 중인 대학생이라는 조건에 부합되는 5명을 대상으로 선정하였다. 연구방법은 심층 면담으로 진행하였으며, 반구조화된 면담으로 실시하였다. 연구참여자 면담을 통해 얻은 자료는 태권도학과 교수1인, 태권도학 박사 1인, 국가대표 시범단 출신 태권도학 박사1인으로 구성된 전문가 집단과 협의와 검증을 여러 차례 거쳤으며, 귀납적 분석방법을 실시하여 다음과 같은 연구결과를 도출하였다. 첫째, 표준 화된 태권도 용어는 다양한 경로를 통해 인식하고 있었으며, 새로운 용어 사용의 필요성을 크게 느끼지 않는다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 현장에서의 태권도 용어 사용실태에 대해서는 구용어를 혼용하여 사용하는 경우가 많았으며, 겨루기, 격파 기술 용어에 대해서는 외래어, 줄임말, 타 스포츠 용어를 많이 사용하고 있었다. 셋째, 태권도 용어 사용의 문제점에 대해서는 지도자의 비표준화된 용어 사용이 있다고 하였다.
