This study empirically analyzed young people's self-employment duration and the exit factors using the Korea Employment Information Service's Youth Panel(1 ~ 12th). The analysis shows that the average duration is 37 months, roughly three years of self-employment, but 40 percent of young self-employed people leave the business within two years. In addition, the higher the age at the start of self-employment, the lower the possibility of leaving, and those with university graduate or higher were more likely to leave their business than those with below high school graduation. In particular, the higher the degree of major congruence and the average monthly income, the lower the possibility of exit.

본 연구는 청년패널조사 직업력 자료(1~12차)를 이용하여 청년층의 자영업 지속기간 및 이탈 영향요 인을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 평균 지속기간은 37개월로 대략 3년의 자영업 유지기간을 보이 고 있으나, 청년 자영업자 40% 정도는 2년 이내에 자영업에서 이탈하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 자영업 시작 시점에서의 연령이 높아질수록 이탈가능성이 낮고, 대졸이상 학력층의 이탈 가능성이 높게 나타났 다. 특히, 전공일치도와 월평균소득 수준이 높을수록 이탈할 가능성은 낮은 것으로 나타났다.
