The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of physical residential environment on depression of the elderly and to confirm the satisfaction of parent-child relationship functions as a moderating variable in the process. The Hierarchical regression analysis was conducted on 4,512 people who were over 65 years old and responded to their relationship satisfaction with their children using the 14th survey data of the Korea Welfare Panel Study. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, the more the residential environment falls short of the minimum housing standards, the higher the depression of the elderly. Second, the higher the satisfaction level of the parent-child relationship, the lower the depression level of the elderly. Third, the satisfaction of the elderly`s parent-child relationship was found to affect the depression of the elderly by interacting with the residential environment. Therefore, when the satisfaction level of the parent-child relationship was high, the impact of the residential environment on the depression of the elderly decreased. Consequently, this study provided practical contributions to alleviating depression of the elderly issues in Korea.

본 연구의 목적은 물리적 주거환경이 노인의 우울에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고, 그 과정에서 자녀관계 만족도 가 조절변수로 기능하는지를 확인하는데 있다. 이를 위하여 한국복지패널 14차년도(2019년) 조사자료를 활용하 여 65세 이상인 자 중에서 자녀와의 관계 만족도에 응답한 4,512명을 대상으로 선정하여 위계적 회귀분석을 실 시하였다. 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 주거환경이 최저주거기준에 미달할수록 노인의 우울 정도는 높아지 는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 자녀관계 만족도가 높을수록 노인의 우울 정도는 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 노인의 자녀관계 만족도는 주거환경과 상호작용하여 노인의 우울에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 자녀관계 만족도가 높을수록 주거환경이 노인의 우울에 미치는 영향이 감소하였다. 끝으로 본 연구결과에 기반하여 노인 우울의 경감에 기여할 수 있는 실천적ㆍ정책적 시사점을 제시하였다.
