영어
This study analyzed the effect of urban-rural integration features on the fear of crime using multilevel ordered logistic model. As a result of the analysis, this study identified that the individual characteristics are important factors that affect the fear of crime, and in particular, it is found differences in perception of the fear of crime according to gender. Next, the result was derived that urban and rural integration feature was the most important factor affecting the fear of crime, excluding gender. In addition, this study confirmed that the increase in rural areas aggravates the fear of crime, while the increase in urban areas mitigates the fear. Based on these conclusions, this study produced the following policy implications. First, the crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) must be applied when promoting the urban-rural integration process. Second, it will have to actively accept second-generation CPTED plan which focuses not only on improving the physical environment but also on enhancing residents’ participation and ties. Third, the expansion of CPTED facilities in rural areas should be considered first.
