Political leaders are widely known to the public through their political and social achievements, social contribution activities, political performance ability and attractiveness, and frequent media exposure. Political leaders unite divided societies into one and act as a guide through the national crisis. Political leaders sometimes become national heroes who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the country and the people. A political leader may change the fate of the country. Therefore, the biggest goal of education is to produce a girder, big person, and leader for the country. Individual political leaders, as national and social officers, must be cautious in every decision. Recently, there have been unfortunate cases in which political leaders make extreme choices. This study investigated how the extreme choices of high-ranking political leaders affect their credibility and organizational reputation among citizens. The case of a high-ranking political leader was targeted at the mayor of Seoul that took place in July 2020. Dependent variables were measured through the public credibility and organizational reputation of political leaders. We further investigated whether the political leader’s extreme choices are considered actions that are responsible for their own negligence and how they affect suicide risk people. For this study, the general public was surveyed online, and the difference between before and after the occurrence of the incident, and the perception of the respondents’ attitudes of themselves and others were analyzed. As a result of this study, due to the extreme choices of political leaders, their public credibility and the reputation of the organization were lower than in the past. In terms of the public credibility of the political leader and the reputation of the organization, it was found that other people, who are third parties, gave lower evaluation than the survey respondents themselves. There was a low response to whether the political leader’s extreme choice was a socially responsible behavior, and a high response to whether suicidal thoughts were promoted toward suicidal people. In the part of the research results, the theoretical and practical implications of this research, limitations of the research, and suggestion for further research were made.

정치지도자는 자신의 정치·사회적 업적, 사회공헌활동, 정치수행 능력과 매력도, 잦 은 미디어 노출을 통해 공중에게 널리 알려진 인물이다. 정치지도자는 분열된 사회를 하나로 통합하고, 국가 위기를 헤쳐나가는 인도자 역할을 해야 한다. 정치지도자는 국 가와 국민을 위하여 자기희생도 기꺼이 감수하는 국가적 영웅이 되기도 한다. 역사적으 로 정치지도자 한 사람이 국가의 운명을 바꾸기도 한다. 따라서 청소년교육의 가장 큰 목표는 국가를 위한 대들보, 동량, 지도자를 배출하는 것이다. 정치지도자 개인은 국가 적 혹은 사회적 책임자로서 매번 본인의 의사결정에 신중해야 한다. 최근 들어 일부 정 치지도자들이 궁지에 몰려 자살을 하는 안타까운 사례가 발생하고 있다. 본 연구는 정 치지도자의 자살행위가 본인의 축적된 신뢰도와 관련 조직에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 를 일반 시민들을 대상으로 조사하였다. 정치지도자의 자살행위 사례는 지난 2020년 7 월에 발생한 서울시장 사건을 대상으로 하였다. 종속변수는 정치지도자 공신력과 조직 평판으로 설정하여 측정하였다. 정치지도자의 자살이 본인의 과실을 책임지는 행동이라 고 생각하는지와 자살위험자들에게 미치는 영향은 어떠한지를 추가로 살펴보았다. 본 연구를 위해 사건 발생 이전과 사후의 차이, 조사응답자 자신과 타인의 태도에 대한 인 식을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 정치지도자의 자살행위로 본인의 공신력과 관련 조직의 평판은 과거보다 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 정치지도자의 공신력과 관련 조직의 평판 차원에서 조사응답자 본인보다 제 3자인 타인이 더욱 낮은 평가를 하는 것으로 나타났 다. 정치지도자의 자살행위가 책임을 지는 행동인지 여부에 대해서는 낮은 반응을 나타냈고, 자살위험자들에 대한 자살충동 촉진 여부에 대해서는 높은 반응을 나타냈다. 연 구 결과의 부분에서 본 연구가 갖는 이론적, 실무적 함의 및 연구의 한계와 후속 연구 를 위한 제언을 하였다.
