This article explores American literature by combining the generations of American settlers and Koreans in the United States. As a text, it was analyzed based on Berkeley Literature, a comprehensive literary magazine published in 2013. The purpose of the study is to diagnose the poetic aspects of the self-identity and ethnicity of American Korean immigrants residing in the United States through the Berkeley Literature to be examined. Immigrant literature stems from self-consciousness that is not attributed anywhere on the border between the country in which you are separated and the other country in which you currently reside. So much is the fact that immigrant literature is a “permanent Gentile,” who experiences discrimination and oppression, and is a cultural and emotional issue of identity and uniqueness. In Berkeley Literature, except for special cases, most poems are recorded in Korean instead of in English. This article examines the development and aspect of diaspora and American literature, and looks into the poetry consciousness of Korean people which was shown in Berkeley Literature in earnest. Launched in 2013, Berkeley Literature has published five volumes to date as a comprehensive literary magazine published by Koreans sown mainly in the California area of the United States. The writers, which are mainly composed of local immigrants, belong to the Berkeley Literary Association, and are identified as the first generation of American Koreans who have chosen to move since 1965 when the Asian Immigration Act was abolished. It contains not only the poems, novels and essays of immigrants, but also works by domestic writers. As a result, Berkeley Literature became a branch of modern Korean literature that enabled immigration literature in the United States in the Korean Diaspora. In the main text of this, I was able to see the poetry consciousness that appeared in Berkeley Literature by type of Korean diaspora. In addition, it was revealed that it was absorbed in the poetry consciousness of Koreans in the United States, processed in the Korean language, and contained or reflected in the test pieces of American Korean poets. Through this, the fact that Korean literature has become a driving force to achieve comfort and healing, harmony and growth while solidifying a national community. In this article, I would like to explore works that show ethnic emotions in separation and dispersion through the poems of immigrants as well as research methods. magazine the prominent subject consciousness in Berkeley Literature includes ecological consciousness, identity recognition, and regression instinct. Also, as for a problem consciousness that can be obtained as immigrants, it was discussed as a way of coexistence, separation of subjects, and nostalgia for a lost country in American society. For example, first, it shows the harmony between nature and civilization ecologically and shows the continuity of life. Here, the continuity of life seeks an ecologically coexisting interrelationship between the home country and another country. Second, it shows the isolation of the identity in which the ego and the world are separated as a fateful shadow that cannot escape from the nostalgia of the home country even in the life of other countries. This is the fact that it is a starting method to reflect the identity of the ideal of recognizing a divided self and a separated world. Third, it reminds longing for the nostalgia, which stimulates the nostalgia of hometown along with the image of hometown. It is also used in an attempt to overcome the reality of immigrants by summoning memories of hometown from a particular space-time and situation.

이민문학은 작가가 떠나온 모국과 현재 거주하는 타국의 경계에서 형성된 자 의식의 세계다. 이민문학은 이질적인 문화 속에 자국민이 겪었던 차별과 억압에 대한 고유한 정서적 정체성으로 파급된다. 이민문학을 주제로 한 본고는 미국 이주민과 재미 한인 세대를 아우르는 것으로 미주문학에 관한 탐구다. 텍스트로 서 2013년 창간한 종합문예지 『버클리문학』을 중심으로 디아스포라와 미주문 학의 발전과 양상을 살폈다. 『버클리문학』에 나타난 시의식은 미국에 거주하는 미주 한인 이민자들의 자아 정체성과 민족 고유성에 대한 시적 양상을 진단할 수 있었다. 2013년 창간된 『버클리문학』은 미국 캘리포니아 지역을 중심으로 한인들이 발행하는 비정기적 문예지로서 현재까지 다섯 권을 간행했다. 주로 현지 이민자 로 구성된 필진은 버클리문인협회 소속으로 1965년부터 동양인 이민법이 폐지 되면서 이주를 선택한 미주 한인 1세대로 파악된다. 거기에 이주민들의 시와 소 설 그리고 수필뿐만 아니라 국내 작가들의 작품들도 수록되어 있다. 언어적인 측 면에서 「버클리문학」은 특수한 경우를 제외하고는 영문이 아닌 한글 시편들이 대부분으로, 고유한 민족의식을 통해 민족공동체를 강화한다. 또한 『버클리문학』은 한인 디아스포라 속에서 재미 이민문학을 가능하게 한 한국 현대문학의 한 갈래로 자리 잡았다. 여기에 나타나는 시의식은 한인 디아 스포라의 유형별로 탐구할 수 있는데, 거기에 재미 한인들의 무의식에 다양하게 흡착되어 한민족 언어로 가공된다. 미주 한인들이 미국이라는 사회 공동체 속에 서 삶에 대한 정서가 시편에 수용되거나 반영되는데 자유시뿐만 아니라 민족 고유의 전통 문학인 현대시조가 활성화되면서 수록되기 시작했다. 이를 통해 민 족공동체로 결속을 다지면서 위로와 치유, 화합과 성장을 이루게 되는 동력이 되고 있다. 본고에서는 이주민들의 이산과 분산 속에서 민족적 정서가 드러나는 작품을 연구 방법과 같이 탐구했다. 그것은 『버클리문학』 지에 두드러진 주제 의식으로 생태 의식, 정체 인식, 회귀본능 등을 들 수 있다. 또한, 이민자로서 파생되는 문제 의식으로 미국 사회에서의 공존의 방식, 주체의 분리, 망향의 향수로 논의했다. 이를테면 첫째 자연과 문명 간의 조화로움을 생태적으로 보여주며 생명의 연 속성을 드러낸다. 생명의 연속성은 모국과 타국 사이 생태적으로 공존적 상호관 계를 모색하게 한다. 둘째 타국의 삶 속에서도 모국의 향수에서 벗어날 수 없는 숙명적인 그림자로서 자아와 세계가 분리된 정체성의 고립을 보인다. 이것은 분 열된 자아와 분리된 세계를 인식하는 이상의 정체성을 반영하기 위한 시작법이 라는 사실이다. 셋째 망향의 그리움을 상기하는데 고향의 이미지와 함께 고향의 향수를 자극한다. 이는 특정 시공간과 상황으로부터 고향의 기억을 소환하며 이 민의 현실을 극복하고자 하는 데 있다.
