Tanalpan is a manufacturing device used to strike the exterior of plain roof-tiles. In this study, the result of plain roof-tile Tanalpan restoration work has been summarized in the process of the analysis of roof tiles that had been excavated from the Achasanseong Fortress region. As a result of the work, several cases which deviate from the categories of previously known Tanalpan sizes and directions of striking plain roof-tiles have been identified. Previously known Tanalpan sizes include Danpan (short-size device), Jungpan (medium-size device) and Jangpan (long-size device) while directions of striking plain roof-tiles include a sector-form direction and a transverse direction. The deviation from the categories has brought about the need to compensate for existing categorizations in the field, and to examine challenges and prospects of further research in the field. Unprecedented aspects found in the restoration work of Tanalpan are as follows: ① a case of striking a plain roof-tile three times and two times in the overall manufacturing process; ② a case that the direction of striking a plain roof-tile in the manufacturing process had been in accordance with the form of the alphabet letter “Z”; ③ and a case that Jungpan-size Tanalpan had been used to strike a plain roof-tile to strike it five times as if it were Danpan-size Tanalpan. In the process of further study of methods of striking plain roof-tiles such as sizes of Tanalpan, directions and the frequency of striking plain roof-tiles and so on, the newly found cases mentioned above seem to make it necessary to improve the categorizations that the following elements are reflected: the reorganization of overall manufacturing process, the setup of analysis characteristics on a process basis, and technical principles. It is also anticipated that meaningful results can be yielded in the future such as the identification of distinct characteristics of relevant region (Han River area), the confirmation of synchronism with other areas, and the reconsideration of the appearance and replacement of Jungpan-size and Jangpansize Tanalpan.

본 고는 “아차산성” 출토 기와 분석 중 시도한 평기와 타날판 복원 작업의 결과물을 정리한 것이다. 작업 결과, “타날판 크기 - 단판∙중판∙장판, 타날 방향 -호상∙횡방향”의 범주에서 벗어나는 사례를 일부 확인 하고, 기존 연구의 분류 속성을 보완할 필요성을 느끼게 되어 이를 정리하여 향후 연구의 과제와 전망을 살펴 보았다. 타날판 복원 작업을 통해 확인된 이례적 양상은 ① 제작 공정 전반과 관련해 진행되는 3회 타날 및 2회 타날 사례, ② 타날 방향이 “之”자향인 사례, ③ 중판 크기의 타날판을 단판 타날판처럼 5회 타날한 사례 등이다. 이상의 사례들을 통해 추후 타날 방법(타날판 크기, 타날 방향, 타날 횟수 등) 연구에 있어 제작 공정 전 반의 재구성과 공정별 분석 속성의 설정, 기술적 원리를 감안한 분류 속성 개발 등의 필요성이 제기되고, 이러한 연구의 진행을 통해 해당 지역(한강 유역 일원)의 지역색 추출과 타 지역과의 공시성 규명, 중판 타날판과 장판 타날판의 출현 및 교체에 관한 재고 등 의미있는 결과를 도출할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
