The local newspaper industry market has been deteriorating due to the portal sites’ dominance over the news ecosystem. Although great profits are being generated through partnerships with portals, due to the structure in which the number of clicks is directly linked to profits, the quality of news is deteriorating and its credibility is being damaged by the spread of fake news. The time has come to explore ways to revitalize the market for the sustainability of the newspaper industry market amid the changing media environment. For this purpose, this study examined the theory of ecosystem along with the model of ecosystem in the newspaper industry market and designed the conceptual model of the newspaper industry market based on the service value network of Basole & Rouse (2008). After designing the service value network As-Is model by applying the conceptual model to the domestic newspaper industry market, the American NYT was adopted as the oriented model. To this end, ten professionals working for the newspaper industry were interviewed twice. Research has shown that the difference between the domestic newspaper industry market ecosystem and the NYT ecosystem in the U.S. is service journalism.

국내 신문산업시장은 포털의 뉴스 생태계 지배로 악화 일로를 걷고 있다. 포털과의제휴로 수익창출을 꾀하고는 있지만 클릭 수가 수익으로 연결되는 구조 속에서 뉴스품질이 떨어지고 급기야는 가짜뉴스 확산으로 신뢰도에도 금이 가고 있다. 변화하는언론 환경 속에서 신문산업시장의 지속가능성을 위한 시장 활성화 방안 모색이 필요한시점이다. 이에 본 연구는 신문산업시장의 생태계 모델 개발을 위해 생태계 이론 및 생태계 모형을 살펴보고 Basole & Rouse(2008)의 서비스 가치네트워크를 기반으로 신문산업시장의 개념적 모델을 설계하였다. 개념적 모델을 국내 신문산업시장에 적용하여서비스 가치네트워크 As-Is모델을 설계한 후 미국 NYT를 지향모델로 삼았다. 이를 위해 신문 종사자 중 전문가 10인을 대상으로 두 차례의 전문가 인터뷰를 수행하였다. 연구 결과, 국내 신문산업시장 생태계와 미국 NYT 생태계의 두드러진 차이점은 서비스저널리즘임이 드러났다.
