In his book The Exform (2016), Nicolas Bourriaud draws critical attention to the realm of ​​the exform, the site where the capitalist mechanism of expulsion and rejection operates, and argues that contemporary art makes this site a field of politico-aesthetic intervention. Focusing on Bourriaud's theoretical and practical endeavor as art critic, this study aims to examine closely the philosophical foundation of his argument and the practical strategies of what he called the ‘realist project’. To do this, this paper conducts an in-depth analysis of the ways in which the critic engages with Louis Althusser's theory of aleatory materialism and Walter Benjamin's notion of materialist history.
