The purpose of this research is to identify the genuine meaning of MusimSeon (無心禪) ideology presented by Baegun-Hwasang (白雲和尙) in Jikji (直指) by examining the structure of Jikji and the concepts of two core keywords, that is, ‘Munyeom (無念)’ and ‘Musim (無心)’ specified in Jikji. Major findings are as follows: 1) The structure of Jikji shows that the preliminary part is compiled based on the organization of Jeondeungrok (傳燈錄), and ‘Jeongjong-bun (正宗分)’ includes the core concepts of ‘JosaSeon (祖師禪)’, condensed from the previous records of Jeondeungrok. 2) The contents of Jikji shows the following structure: the clauses related to the concepts of ‘Color․Sound․Language (色․聲․言語)’ became the base framework of a whole structure, and ‘Munyeom․Musim’ as a key to the enlightenment in ‘JosaSeon’ was presented with a special emphasis. 3) Baegun-Hwasang accomplished the great enlightenment of ‘Musim․Munyeom- jinjong (無 心․無念眞宗)’. Baegun’s enlightenment means the steady state of ‘Munyeom’ by continuously practicing ‘Musim’, and finally reaching the stage of completely forgetting worldly desires and corporalities. Therefore, Baegun’s MusimSeon is the state of ‘Munyeom’ in Buddhist world, reached by continuously practicing the method of ‘Musim’ organized by Majo (馬祖), Baekjang (百丈) and Hwangbyeok (黃檗). 4) Furthermore, Baegun’s ideology of Seon is closely linked with the ideology of ‘Bulyi (不二)’ of Mahayana Buddhism and the thoughts of ‘Jinyeo (眞如)․Munyeom’ and ‘Yeoraejang (如來藏)․Bulseong (佛性)’ of Daeseung-Gisinnon (大乘起信論).

이 연구는 ｢直指｣에 초록[발췌]된 각 條項의 典據書誌를 분석하여 ｢직지｣의 편성체계를 규명하였다. 또한 ｢직지｣ 편성의 핵심 조항들을 導出하여, 白雲이 ｢직지｣의 편성에서 暗示․反影하고 있는 無心禪의 正體를 규명하고자 하였다. 연구의 결과, ｢직지｣의 편성체계는 그 首尾(序分, 流通分)는 ｢전등록｣의 체제를 模範으로 삼았고, 正宗分은 역대 傳燈語錄 등에서 祖師禪의 眞髓들을 초록․전개하고 있음을 규명하였다. ｢직지｣의 편성 내용은 ‘祖師禪의 色․聲․言語’ 등과 관련한 條項들을 전체 展開의 準據로 하고, 祖師禪 중에서 특히 깨달음(見性)의 要諦인 ‘無念․無心’을 浮刻시켜 제시하였다. 白雲은 無心․無念眞宗의 大解脫을 이루었다. 白雲의 見性은 ‘無心’으로써 參究하여, 항상 ‘無念’이 되면 마침내 冥然地[究竟覺]에 이르게 되는 佛地無念이라 할 것이다. 이에 따라, 白雲의 無心禪은 ‘馬祖․百丈․黃檗이 성립시킨 無心修行法’을 실천하여, 항상 ‘慧能의 無念’이 되면 곧 見性을 증득하는 禪法임을 규명하였다. 또한 白雲의 禪思想은 大乘의 不二․中道思想과 ｢기신론｣의 ‘眞如․無念’ 및 ‘如來藏․佛性’ 思想 등에 맞닿아 있다.
