The purpose of this study is to clarify the effect of character education programs for enhancing democratic citizenship capabilities of middle school students. The composition of the program was verified with the content of personality factors and the effectiveness of 12 sessions. The subjects of this study were 42 freshmen of A middle school in Jeonbuk region. As a result of the study, it was found that the pre-test was a homogeneous group between the experimental group and the comparative group, and as a result of the post-test, the democratic citizenship capacity of the experimental group was improved. Democratic citizenship education aims to help each individual develop their capabilities and maintain their identity. Therefore, as a democratic citizen of middle school students, the curriculum, comparison, and linkage programs should be operated to establish and practice correct values.

이 연구는 중학생의 민주시민역량 증진을 위한 인성교육프로그램 효과를 밝히는데 목 적이 있다. 프로그램의 구성은 인성요인요소를 내용으로 12회기 수업 효과를 검증하였다. 연 구대상 전북지역의 A중학교 1학년 42명을 대상으로 하였다. 연구결과 실험집단과 비교집단 간에 사전검사는 동질집단인 것으로 나타났으며, 사후검사 결과 실험집단의 민주시민 역량 이 향상되었다. 또한 검사시기별 분석 결과 사후검사와 추후검사에서 프로그램의 지속적인 효과가 있었다. 민주시민교육은 각 개인의 역량을 발하고 정체성을 유지하도록 돕는데 목적 이 있다. 따라서 중학생의 민주시민으로서 올바른 가치관 확립과 실천을 위한 교과와 비교 과 연계프로그램이 운영되어야 할 것이다.
