This case study attempted to understand illegal sport gambling experience and sports value of adolescent student-athlete. According to a purposeful sampling method that is useful for collecting data closely related to the topic, 12 student-athletes who have participated in sports gambling in adolescence were selected as research participants. The data collection process involved in-depth interviews with the participants and analyzed using description, analysis, and interpretation process proposed by Wolcott(1994). The study found that adolescent student-athletes perceived illegal sports gambling as a tool for interaction with peer groups, both positively and negatively. The perception that illegal sports gambling gave them financial and economic benefits was also an opportunity for them to indulge in entertainment and misbehavior. In addition, participation in illegal sports gambling has a severe negative impact on youth student athletes' values of sports. Since participation in gambling, sports have now lost their pure meaning, and sports have formed perceptions and values of gambling. Therefore, it can be concluded that the participation of adolescent student-athletes in illegal sports gambling is a factor that undermines the values of the right sport to have as a sportsperson.

본 사례연구는 청소년기 학생선수의 불법 스포츠도박 참여 경험과 그에 따른 스포츠 가치관을 탐색하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 주제와 밀접한 관련이 있는 자료를 수집하는데 유용한 유목적 표집에 따라 청소년기에 스포츠 도박 참여 경험이 있는 학생선수 12명을 연구참여자로 선정하였다. 자료수집은 심층 면담을 통해 이루어졌으며 수집된 자료는 Wolcott(1994)의 기술, 분석, 해석의 과정을 통해 분석되었다. 연구 결과 청소년기 학생선수들은 불법 스포츠도박을 또래 집단과의 상호작용의 도구로 인식하고 있었으며, 이는 긍정적·부정적 측면을 모두 지닌 것으로 나타났다. 이들에게 불법 스포츠도박은 금전적 경제적 이익을 준다는 인식과 함께 유흥과 비행에 빠져드는 계기가 되기도 하였다. 또, 불법 스포츠도박 참여는 청소년 학생선수의 스포츠에 대한 가치관에 심각한 악영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 도박 참여 후로 스포츠는 이제 그 자체의 순수한 의미를 잃어버렸으며, 스포츠 경기는 도박이라는 인식과 가치관이 형성되었다. 따라서 청소년기 학생선수의 불법 스포츠도박 참여는 스포츠인으로서 지녀야 할 올바른 스포츠 가치관을 훼손하는 요인으로 결론 내릴 수 있다.
