Background: the filial piety of Oriental ethics and Confucianism handed down from ancient times and analysis the question and answer of Lee You-Tae and his descendants, to find out Lee You-Tae the characteristics of filial piety Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine Lee You Tae’s Filial Piety Thought, focusing on the 「Noneo(論語)」 of the 『SaseoDabmoon(四書答問』written by Lee You Tae, a 17th representative rustic literati, in which questions and answers that were conducted with descendants on the difficult phrases of The Four Books are included by emulating the criticism of『Noneohokmoon(論語或問)』of Yi Yi. Methodology/Approach: For the scope and content of the study, seven parts (chapters 2, 6 and 11 of 「Hakyi(學而)」; chapters 5, 6 and 8 of 「WeJung(爲政)」and chapter 21 of「Taebaek(泰伯)」) having the passages about the filial piety in the 『Noneo(論語)』 were interpreted and analyzed, and meanings were given after the contents related to the filial piety in Lee You Tae’s other books and collection of literary works were reviewed. Findings/Conclusions: It was shown through the study of Lee You Tae’s various books that the ‘filial piety thought’ begins with self-cultivation which then develops to influence parents, families, neighbors and even countries, and that his filial piety thought penetrates the times and influences the modern times. Implications: It should henceforth be extended to the overall Questions and Answers on the Four Books and the collection of literary works to pay attention to and study on Lee You Tae’s filial piety thought which would be the beginning of new Choryeo (idea of Choryeo).

배경: 예로부터 이어져 내려오는 동양 윤리와 유교의 중요 덕목인 효를 정통 성리학자인 이유태와 자손과의 사서문답을 심층적으로 분석 연구함으로써 그의 효에 관한 사상적 특질 구명 목적: 17세기의 대표적인 산림(山林)인 이유태가 이이(李珥)의 『論語或問』의 변의를 모방해 사서(四書)의 난해한 어구에 대하여 자손과 문답한 내용을 수록한 책인 『四書答問』중「論語」를 중심으로 이유태의 효사상 연구 방법론/접근 : 국립중앙도서관에 소장되어 있는 『사서답문』(청구기호 우촌古1237-8) 2~3권에 실려 있는 연구의 범위 및 내용은 ‘孝’가 들어간 구절 『논어』중 대문 7개(「학이」편 2장‧6장‧11장,「위정」편 5장‧6장‧8장, 「태백」편 21 장)에 대하여 번역 및 분석을 하였고, 이유태의 다른 저서와 문집에 나와 있는 효와 관련된 내용을 찾아 의미를 부여하 였다. 결과/결론 : 이유태의 다양한 저서에서 ‘孝’사상은 수기에서부터 시작되고 이것이 점점 발전하여 부모, 가족, 이웃 나아가 나라에까지 영향을 끼칠 수 있다고 주장한 이유태의 효사상이 시대를 관통하여 현대까지 영향을 미친다는 점 을 나타냈다. 시사점 : 이유태가 주장한 수기에서부터 시작되는 ‘孝’는 우리나라의 아름다운 전통가치인 ‘孝’로 각자의 내면을 닦음으로써 부모, 가족, 이웃 나아가 나라에까지 영향을 끼칠 수 있다고 주장한 이유태의 효사상이 시대를 관통하여 현대까지 영향을 미친 점은 오늘날 효의 가치가 축소되고 있는 시점에서 큰 시사점이 될 수 있고, 향후 사서 전체로 확대하여 이유태의 효 사상에 대해 관심을 갖고 연구할 필요성이 제기된다.
