This paper aims to understand the effect of English picture books as language input sources in dramatization activities and to explore how small-group dramatization activities have an effect on the cultivation of community competence. The result of the study emerged in two steps. First, in dramatization activities, picture books served as a source of language input and had a positive effect on developing learners’ English communicative skills. Learners also expanded their vocabulary and better understood their dramatization topics and contents by reading picture books. Second, the small-group dramatization activity had a positive effect on the cultivation of community competence. Small-group work had a positive effect on the improvement of interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain relationships, and overcome conflicts. Based on the results, some suggestions for future studies are provided.
