This study aimed at identifying how personality characteristics, social support, and job values affect career decision levels for middle school students who operate educational welfare priority support projects. This study carried out the survey with 311 middle school students residing in Daejeon Metropolitan City and Chungcheongnam-do Province and also in-depth interviews of career teachers, professional counselors, and seven education welfare workers. The data analysis was done through hierarchical multiple regression using SPSS and qualitative data analysis. The survey results revealed that factors affecting middle school students’ level of decision-making for their career were openness, extroversion, and neuroticism among personality traits, and parental support among social support. Affecting factors that career counsellors chose were career guidance considering personal characteristics and tendencies, exploration and influence of social support, the importance of clarifying values and exploring career values, and career guidance program changes. Through survey and research integrating in-depth interview, this study found important implications to identify the direction of more specific career guidance methods during the time when the schools are trying to increase the middle school student’s chances of exploring their careers through the expansion of the free school year system.

본 연구는 교육복지우선지원사업 운영 중학교 학생을 대상으로 성격특성, 사회적 지지, 직업 가치관이 진로결정수 준에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 대전광역시와 충청남도에 위치한 중학생 311명은 설문조 사를 진로전담교사, 전문상담교사, 교육복지사 7명은 심층면접을 실시하였다. 자료분석은 SPSS 25 프로그램과 질적연 구 분석 방법을 사용하였다. 중학생의 진로결정수준에 영향을 주는 요인은 성격특성 중 개방성, 외향성, 신경증으로 나타났으며, 사회적 지지 중 부모 지지가 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 학교 진로 관련 담당자들이 생각하는 중학생의 진로결정수준 영향 요인은 개인적 특성과 성향을 고려한 진로지도, 사회적 지지원의 탐색과 영향, 가치관 명료화 및 직업 가치관 탐색의 중요성, 진로지도 프로그램 변화로 도출되었다. 본 연구는 설문조사와 심층면담 통합연구를 통해 자유학년제 확대 운영으로 중 학교 학생들의 진로탐색 기회를 높이고 있는 시점에서 진로지도의 방향성을 구체적으로 확인하였다는 점에서 중요한 함의를 찾을 수 있었다.
