The main purpose of this design development research is mainly two. The first is to induce a more positive change in the way costume works are viewed and understood by the public. The second is to propose a costume design that can satisfy novel creativity needs for modern people who expect brand new. The work of reinterpreting traditional costumes and creating new designs is one of the design methods enjoyed by designers. So it is also a topic that requires a lot of careful and attention to look completely new. Therefore, the design proposed by this study pursued a new type of Jeogori design through analysis of not only Jeogori shape and structural features, but also formative characteristics and aesthetic value. The design development research finally proposed a total of four designs based on sheepskin that had undergone vegetable and waxing processing by setting the collar and Ye'mim, the core design elements of the Jeogori, as motifs. I made a change to each design by varying the degree and the shape of the collar, and the collar's closure was applied with the details of the western jacket style, such as attaching buttons to the back of the waist or fixing it with a zipper without using a separate pole.

이 디자인 개발 연구의 주된 목적은 두 가지이다. 첫 번째는 대중의 의상 작품을 바라보고 이해하는 방식 에 대한 보다 긍정적인 변화를 유도하는 것이다. 두 번째는 참신함을 기대하는 현대인들에게 새로운 표현 욕구를 충족시킬 수 있는 의상 디자인을 제안하는 것이다. 전통 복식을 재해석해서 새로운 디자인을 창작하 는 방식의 작업은 디자이너들이 즐겨서 사용하는 디자인 방법의 하나다. 그만큼 온전히 새롭게 보이기 위해 서는 많은 노력과 주의가 필요한 주제이기도 하다. 그래서 이번 연구를 통해 제안하는 디자인은 저고리의 형태, 구조적 특징뿐만 아니라 조형적 특성과 미적 가치 등의 분석을 통해 새로운 형태의 저고리가 될 수 있도록 했다. 무엇보다 기존의 한복이나 저고리를 모티프로 한 디자인에 시도되지 않았던 가죽이라는 소재의 접목을 통해 차별화된 디자인이 될 수 있도록 노력했다. 이 디자인 개발 연구는 저고리의 핵심 디자인 요소인 깃, 그중에서 직령깃과 여밈을 모티프로 설정해서 베지터블 가공과 왁싱 가공을 거친 양피를 소재로 한 총 4벌의 의상 디자인을 최종 제안했다. 각각의 디자인은 깃의 여밈과 파임의 정도에 차이를 주거나 깃의 형태 를 달리해서 디자인에 변화를 주었으며, 깃의 여밈은 별도의 대를 이용하지 않고 허리 뒷부분에 단추를 달거 나 지퍼를 이용해서 고정하는 등 재킷의 디테일을 접목해서 실용성이 함께 표현될 수 있도록 했다. 후속 연구 에서는 연구의 시간적 범위를 고대까지로 확장해서 저고리에 대한 보다 깊이 있는 이론적 배경을 바탕으로 한 학술적 가치가 높은 디자인 개발 연구가 될 수 있도록 하고자 한다.
