Digital culture has brought about fundamental changes in community formation and activity. Unlike existing communities which are close geographically and are firmly established for a distinct purpose, the majority of online communities exist without their members actually facing each other. This study noted the phenomenon that, paradoxically, community formation has become more active and sustainable in the digital paradigm than individual isolation. We also consider Maffezoli's view of valuing the power and possibilities of images in analyzing the causes of this situation. Images as a medium for connecting people's emotions and forming solidarity can be seen in the case of Shutter sisters, an American women's photography community. They are a new type of emotional community that shares hobbies online, and their activities are different from those pursued by the existing amateur photography community. It is not intended to present the mechanical specifications of the camera or to seek traditional photometric perfection, but to share photos as a means of sharing and communicating emotions about ordinary and everyday life. Their examples demonstrate the meaning and value of loose solidarity in a new community of dispersed individuals, and suggests that image play a role in the process of solidarity. The way photographic images work in communities of various tastes needs to be discussed through future research.

디지털 문화는 공동체형성과 활동에 있어 근본적인 변화를 가져왔다. 기존의 공동체가 물리적으로 근접한 영토를 공유하며 뚜렷한 목적을 가지 고 공고히 구축된 것과는 달리 대다수의 온라인 공동체는 구성원들이 단 한 번도 실제로 대면하지 않은 채 존속되고 있다. 이 연구는 디지털 패러 다임 속에서 역설적으로 개인의 고립보다 공동체의 결성이 훨씬 활발하게 일어나며 지속가능하게 된 현상에 주목한 것이다. 그리고 이러한 상황이 가능하게 된 원인을 분석함에 있어 이미지가 가진 힘과 가능성에 가치를 두고자 하는 미셸 마페졸리의 관점을 바탕으로 했다. 사람들의 감정을 연 결하고 연대를 구성하게 하는 매개로서 이미지는 미국의 여성 사진공동체 인 셔터시스터즈의 사례에서 볼 수 있다. 이들은 온라인에서 취미를 공유 하는 새로운 형식의 정서적 공동체로서 그들의 활동은 기존의 아마추어 사진공동체가 추구하는 목적과는 다른 양상을 보인다. 이는 평범하고 일 상적인 삶에 대한 정서를 나누고 교감하기 위한 방편으로서 사진을 공유 하는 것으로 새로운 공동체 속 느슨한 연대가 가지는 의미와 가치를 실감 하게 한다. 이는 노스탤지어의 감성이 드러나는 빈티지 스타일을 통해 일 상적인 시공간에 스토리텔링을 더하며, 유기적이고 자연친화적인 가치관 을 공유하는 것이다. 취향공동체의 연대 과정을 통해 온라인 시대에 이미 지가 수행하는 역할은 무엇이며, 이미지가 작동하는 방식은 어떤 것인지 재고한다는 점에 본 연구의 의의가 있다.
