As society becomes more complex and advanced, the risk of accidents is inevitably increased, and this is an opportunity to increase the occurrence of not only congenital disabilities but also acquired disabilities. In this situation, the use of rehabilitation robots, a complex of advanced technologies, is expected to increase steadily in the future. So the authors would take a look the technological trends and future development prospects of domestic and foreign rehabilitation robots. Until now, disability assistive robot technology has been mainly developed in the field of supporting disability with walking disabilities or work limitations rather than cognitive disabilities. However, another issue of population aging is that cognitive impairment has the potential to increase, so development of a disability assistance robot that secures user safety must be actively promoted. 사회가 복잡해지고 고도화 될수록 사고의 위험 또한 늘어날 수밖에 없고, 이는 선천적 장애 뿐 아니라 후천적 장애의 발생을 높이는 계기가 되고 있다. 이러한 상황에서 첨단기술의 복합체인 재활 로봇의 활용은 앞으로 꾸준히 늘어 나게 될 전망이다. 이에 저자들은 국내·외 재활 로봇의 기술 동향과 향후 발전 전망에 대한 살펴보고자 한다. 지금까지의 장애 보조 로봇 기술은 보행 장애나 작업제한 장애 지원영역에서 주로 발전을 이루어왔다. 그러나 인구의 고령화는 인지 장애 대상자가 늘어날 것이라는 점을 잠재하고 있기 때문에 사용자의 안전성을 확보한 장애 보조 로봇 개발이 추진되어 야 하고, 이를 위해 다양한 형태의 임상연구를 통해 재활 로봇의 치료 효과에 대한 실증적 결과들이 도출, 융합되어야 할 것이라 생각된다.
