There are two aspects in popularizing ballet, one of which is the aesthetic viewpoint, and the other is enhancing people’s understanding of ballet. Although there have been ceaseless efforts for its popularization, ballet still falls short of the broad recognition of people. And the visual contents like movies and TV dramas have been trying to present ballet, but their nature as media limited their effectiveness showing ballet. ｢Nabilera｣comes strongly forward as a good example for a storytelling contents expanding the public knowledge of ballet, taking advantage of the nature of Webtoon. The vertical scrolling creates the great effectiveness of showing the movements of ballet. Heroic narration, evolving around an ordinary hero, helps reader to get immersed in the story, and delivers the positive values about ballet to people. Therefore we are suggested to be more active about researching on the substances of both media and considering the artistic exchange of them.

발레의 대중화는 미학적 측면과 대중들의 발레에 대한 인식 제고라는 두 가지측면 에서 말해진다. 발레에 대한 대중적 인식의 제고를 위해서 그동안 많은 노력들이 있어 왔지만 여전히 발레는 고급한 예술로 고립돼 있다. 다른 매체를 통해서 발레를 소개한 사례로는 영화가 제일 자주 언급된다. 하지만 영화는 그 장르적 한계로 발레의 대중적 이해를 눈에 띄게 확장시키는 데는 이르지 못했다. 이러한 상황에서 웹툰 ｢나빌레라｣ 는 웹상에서 표현되는 만화라는 매체적 특성을 효과적으로 활용해 발레에 대한 대중 적 이해를 증진시킨 좋은 사례가 되었다. 세로스크롤 방식은 발레의 동작을 시각적이 고 효과적인 방식으로 노출시켰다. 또한 일상적 영웅을 주인공으로 하는 영웅적 서사 는 발레 이야기가 독자에게 흥미롭게 다가가게 하는 데 기여했고, 이야기 속 인물들도 발레에 대한 대중들의 편견을 부수고, 긍정적 가치를 심어주는데 효과적으로 기능했 다. 웹툰으로 제작된 이야기가 드라마나 영화로도 확장돼 나가는 예에서 보듯이 발레 의 대중화를 위해서 웹툰과의 교류 가능성을 적극적으로 검토하는 동시에 양 매체의 본질에 대한 학문적 연구도 계속돼야 할 것이다.
