Among Zeami’s Noh works, the problem of the main character’s Buddhist relief accounted for a large part in the interpretation of the Noh work. In the current study, we focused on the moonlight set up in a form closely linked to the relief issue, and considered how it plays a role in the work. For the purposes of the study, “Izutsu”, “Toru” and “Obaste” were selected to examine the influence of moonlight on the inner side of each main character. Among them, “Izutsu” drew attention by reciting lines that can earn attention from the beginning of the work. Furthermore, the main character of “Toru” was adapted based on the memory of the moonlight’s role in the process of relieving mental and emotional resentment during the lifetime. The main character of “Obaste” experienced supreme bliss, who enjoys the land of heaven after her love for the moon. This experience was also interpreted as a kind of relief, and the influence of moonlight was significant in this relief. As a result of this consideration, it was found that the influence of moonlight was common in resolving the attachment that each main character had. Although Buddhist relief was not achieved, each of the main characters achieved their own wish. There seems to be the author’s intention to appease them who cannot be saved because of their attachment.

제아미의 노(能) 작품 중에는 주인공의 불교적 구제의 문제가 작품 해석상 큰 비 중을 차지하는 경우가 적지 않다. 본 소고에서는 그 구제 문제와 긴밀히 연계되는 형태로 설정되어 있는 달빛에 주목하여, 그것이 작품 속에서 어떠한 역할을 하는지 고찰해 본다. 그 고찰의 대상으로서는 『이즈쓰(井筒)』 『도루(融)』 『오바스테(姨捨)를 선택하여, 각 주인공의 내면에 미치는 달빛의 영향을 살펴보았다. 이 중 『이즈쓰(井筒)』는 망령이 주인공인 무겐노(夢幻能)의 대표 격인 작품인데, 작품의 시작부터 달빛에 세심(洗心) 을 기대하는 대사를 읊어 시선을 끈다. 그리고 작품의 말미 근처에서 그 세심의 희 망을 이룬 듯한 대사가 보여 주목된다. 그리고 『도루(融)』의 주인공은 생전에 심적 울분을 해소하는 과정에서 달빛에 커다란 영향을 받은 기억을 토대로 하여 각색된 인물이다. 그래서 이 작품의 주인공은 시종일관 달빛에 애집하는 모습을 보이다가, 급기야 달로 올라가 天人이 된다. 이것은 나름의 구제로 해석할 수 있으며, 그 구제 의 과정에는 달빛이 커다란 역할을 했음을 간과할 수가 없다. 『오바스테(姨捨)』의 주 인공 老女는 달에 대한 애집 끝에 극락정토를 환시하는 지복(至福)의 체험까지 하고 있다. 그 지복의 체험도 일종의 구제로 해석되며, 이 구제에도 달빛의 영향이 지대했 다. 이상과 같은 고찰의 결과, 각 주인공들이 품었던 집심을 해소하는 데에는 공통적 으로 달빛의 영향이 컸음을 알 수 있었다. 불교적인 구제까지는 이루지 못했을지라 도 각 주인공들은 제각기 나름의 원하던 바를 이루고 있었다. 거기에는 집심 때문에 구제 못 받는 망령들을 달래려는 작자의 의도가 깔려있는 듯하다.
