The purpose of this study is to verify theraplay as an effective approach in improving social ability and changing problem behaviors of autistic children. This study collected qualitative and quantitative data of a 10-year-old autistic male child who underwent 20 sessions of theraplay once a week to validate the research question. Qualitative data was collected using video recordings of all sessions, projective drawing test, and mother-child interaction test. As quantitative data, Childhood Autism Rating Scale, Child Adolescent Behavior Rating Scale, and Child Behavior Change Observation Record were collected. Qualitative and quantitative data analyzed the child’s behavior change and interaction stage. The study results are as follows. First, through theraplay, the frequency of eye contact increased and changed to transfer and share emotions as the session progressed. The frequency of smiles and laughter also increased to express joy. Second, physical contact, consideration, and verbal communication to ask for help were aspects of mother- child interaction. In particular, theraplay showed effectiveness as it elicited genuine interest and enjoyment. This study is significant in suggesting effective therapeutic interventions for autistic children through the case of theraplay that provided positive behavior changes and mother- child interaction of an autistic child.

본 연구는 자폐 스펙트럼 아동의 행동 변화와 모자상호작용에 대한 치료놀이 사례를 분석하는데 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 만 10세 자폐 아동에게 주 1회 20회씩 예술매체를 활용한 치료놀이를 실시하였으며, 연구문 제를 검증하기 위해 질적, 양적 자료를 수집하였다. 질적 자료의 연구결과를 보기 위해 모든 치료놀이 활동을 영상녹화 하고 그림 검사 및 모자 상호작용 검사를 실시하였으며, 양적 자료로는 아동 자폐성 평정척도와 아동 행동 변화 관찰기록을 수집하였다. 이에 따라 아동의 행동변화와 상호작용 단계를 분석하였다. 본 연구 의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 치료놀이 실시 후 아동의 눈맞춤은 회기가 진행됨에 따라 빈도가 증가했을 뿐만 아니라 감정의 전달과 공유를 위한 눈맞춤으로 변화되었으며, 미소․웃음도 빈도와 시간이 증가하면서 자신의 즐거움을 표현하는 모습으로 변화하였다. 둘째, 치료놀이 실시 후 모자상호작용양상은 신체적 접촉, 배려하기, 언어적 의사소통으로 도움행동 요청하기 등이 나타났으며, 특히 진정한 관심과 즐거움을 이끌어내 어 치료적 개입이 효과적인 요소가 되었다. 본 연구는 자폐 스펙트럼 아동의 행동특성과 어머니와의 상호작 용 양상에 긍정적인 변화를 가져오는 치료놀이 사례를 통해 자폐 스펙트럼 아동에게 효과적인 치료적 개입 을 제시하였다는데 의의가 있다.
