The purpose of this paper is to analyse and reflect on the foundational idea and line of Christian Endeavor through “The Chin Saing”(1925-1930) and propose the practical implications and lessons for today’s Christian youth. Firstly, I studied bibliographic informations on the first issue such as publishing year, authors, table of contents, publisher, publishing house, printing house, pages. In the first issue, the writings of Un-Lim Kang(William M. Clarke), Tae-Yong Choi, Pil-Su Kim, Byeong-Seon Hong, Yun-Gyung Kim, Pil-Geun Chae, Dae-Seon Ahn(Wallace J. Anderson), and Seong-Sik Jang are chosen and summarized the reason for the foundation of CE such as mission for evangelism and social participation, defence of the perennial truth of Christian gospel, formation of youth character, youth training, and so forth. Secondly, on the basis of the foundational idea of CE, I focused on the fields of social participation such as adult farmer education, vocational education, mass education, sex education, juvenile education, feminist movement, temperance movement through “The Chin Saing”(1926-1930). Thirdly, I propose practical implications and lessons to today’s youth Christians on the basis of the content of this research such as inheritance of the spirit of CE, reconstruction efforts of CE, vibrant research of CE, study of practical plan for the spirit of CE. In light of significant contribution and remarkable devotion of CE, I suggest future extensions of this study into other various themes such as patriotic enlightenment movement, students movement, discipleship training, educational achievement for Lord’s day school, union movement, and other related areas.

본 연구는 1925년부터 1930년까지 발행된 「眞生」(“The Chin Saing”)을 중심으로 한국 기독면려회의 설립 이념과 노선을 분석 및 성찰하여 오늘날 기독청년들을 위한 실천적 함의와 교훈점들을 제시하려는 데 목적을 둔다. 첫째, 기독면려회 기관지 「眞生」 창간호에 대한 문헌 정보들을 고찰하여 출판 시 기, 저자들, 글들(목차), 발행인, 출판사와 인쇄소, 분량 등을 소개했다. 창간호에 실린 내용들 중 강운림, 최태용, 김필수, 홍병선, 김윤경, 채필근, 안대선, 장성식 등이 작성 한 글들을 별도로 선정하여 복음전파와 사회참여, 기독교 복음의 항존적(恒存的) 진리 변증, 청년 인격 형성, 청년 훈련 등을 살펴봄으로써 기독면려회를 설립한 의의를 정 리했다. 둘째, 기독면려회의 설립 이념을 바탕으로 1926년부터 1930년까지 발행된 「眞生」을 통해 농민교육, 직업교육, 민중교육, 성교육, 아동교육, 여성운동, 금주운동 등 기독 면려회의 사회참여 분야에 초점을 맞추어 고찰했다. 셋째, 이 논문에서 연구한 내용에 근거하여 기독면려회의 정신을 계승할 것과 기독 면려회의 재건사역을 위한 노력, 기독면려회와 관련된 연구의 활성화, 기독면려회의 정신을 실천하기 위한 방안 모색 등 오늘날 기독청년들을 선도하기 위한 실천적 함의 와 교훈점들을 제시했다. 이렇듯 기독면려회가 남긴 의미심장한 공헌과 주목할 만한 헌신에 비추어 본 연구 자는 앞으로 기독면려회와 관련된 연구를 확장함으로써 본 주제 외에도 애국 계몽운 동, 학생운동, 제자훈련, 주일학교 교육 업적, 교회 일치운동 등 다른 여러 방면의 담 론으로 외연할 것을 기대한다.
