Han Yongun’s “The Silence of Love(Nim ui Chimmuk)” is often recounted as a best-selling poetry collection before and after the Korean Independence. How did this collection become a bestseller even though its exact sales volume could not be presented since the survey method and standards were ambiguous and unstructured? “The Silence of Love(Nim ui Chimmuk)” drew nearly no response when its first edition was published in 1926. To examine its publishing strategy, such as which direction and coordinates the publishing entity had, and how it had intended to be accepted by readers, this study reviewed book advertisements and reports at the time of first edition. “The Silence of Love(Nim ui Chimmuk)” drew attention when it was reprinted in 1934 and 1950, raising questions on how it was connected to the exclusion and selection of Han Yongun’s poems in the anthology. Study the proces of canonization by Han Yongun surounding the history of literature, school textbooks. Since the 1960s, Han Yongun has been evaluated as a national and resistance poet. On the one hand, the study could confirm that “The Silence of Love(Nim ui Chimmuk)” became a steady seller as it was recognized by the public as a best seller before and after the Korean Liberation.

한용운의 『님의 침묵』은 해방 전후 베스트셀러 시집으로 회자된다. 조사 방법과 기준이 모호했고 체계적이지 못했기 때문에 정확한 판매량을 제시 할 수 없는데도 『님의 침묵』은 어떻게 베스트셀러가 되었을까. 1926년 『님 의 침묵』 초판이 출판되었을 때 출판 전략, 이른바 출판 주체는 어떤 방향성 과 좌표를 갖고 있었는지 독자에게 어떻게 수용되고자 했는지 살펴보기 위 해 초판 당시의 책광고, 독후감을 검토하였다. 『님의 침묵』은 1934년과 1950년에 재판되면서 주목받았는데, 한용운의 시가 시선집에 배제되고 선 택되는 과정과 어떤 연관이 있는지 의문을 던졌다. 한용운의 시가 시선집, 교과서에 수록되는 과정을 살펴보았다. 1960년대 이후 한용운은 민족시인, 저항시인으로 평가받는다. 한편으로 해방 전후 『님의 침묵』이 베스트셀러였 다는 요인이 독자에게 인식되며 스테디셀러로 자리 잡을 수 있었음을 확인 할 수 있었다.
