One of the fundamental problems when we are trying to interpret the Tractatus is to understand unfamiliar concepts that are hardly found in the tradition of analytic philosophy. For instance, when Wittgenstein claims that ‘logic and ethics are transcendental’, what is the meaning of ‘transcendental’ and how could it be consistently applied to logic and ethics? We claim that these questions should be discussed in the tradition of Transcendental- Philosophy originated from Kant. And the understanding of the concepts obtained from this tradition plays important roles in the following respect: On the one hand, the understanding is directly related to the whole system of the Tractatus. On the other hand, it becomes a cornerstone in understanding early Wittgenstein’s views on ethics. Therefore, we would like to outline the Kantian approach as a framework that could shed light on these problems and to clarify that the goal of the Tractatus has an inseparable relation to something ethical. Subsequently, we will critically analyze the conventional understanding of the concept of ‘transcendental’. In particular, contrary to the Erik Stenius’s interpretation, who understands the meaning of ‘transcendental’ differently, when it is applied to ethics and logic, respectively, in the Tractatus, we will equally interpret ‘transcendental’ as a priori conditions of the world. Finally, we will suggest that early Wittgenstein’s views on ethics are unique, and are related to a problem of the solipsism, which is, a condition of the world.

우리가 비트겐슈타인의 『논리-철학 논고』를 해석할 때 마주하게 되는 어려움 중 하나는 분석철학의 전통에서 찾아보기 어려운 낯선 개념들에 대한 이해이다. 예컨대 논리와 윤리가 모두 초월적이라는 『논고』의 서술에서 ‘초월적(transzendental)’의 뜻은 무엇이며 그것은 어떻게 논리와 윤리에 일관되게 적용될 수 있는가? 우리가 보기에 이 물음들은 칸트로부터 발원한 초월-철학의 전통 아래에서 다루어져야 하며, 그로부터 얻은 개념들에 대한 이해는 한편으로 『논고』의 전체 체계에 대한 이해와 직결되어 있다는 점에서, 다른 한편으로 청년 비트겐슈타인의 윤리관을 정초한다는 점에서 중요성을 지닌다. 그러므로 우리는 우선 위의 문제들을 다루기 위한 하나의 틀(framework)로서 칸트주의적 접근을 개관하고, 『논고』의 목표가 윤리적인 것과 불가분의 관계에 있음을 밝히고자 한다. 이후, 『논고』의 ‘초월적’ 개념에 관한 기존의 이해와 그 문제점을 분석한다. 특히 『논고』에서 논리와 윤리가 초월적인 것으로 제시될 때 그 뜻을 다른 것으로 이해하는 스테니우스의 해석에 반해, 우리는 양자를 일관되게 세계의 선험적 조건이라는 뜻으로 해석할 것이다. 마지막으로 청년 비트겐슈타인의 윤리관은 매우 독특한 것이었으며 세계의 조건인 유아론(solipsism)의 문제와 연관되어 있음을 밝힌다.
