This study addresses the impact of a cultural institution's founding on leisure satisfaction and engagement in arts and culture. The study's subject is the Asia Culture Center, one of the leading cultural institutions in Korea. The difference-in-differences method was used with about 410,000 survey responses to estimate the impact. Estimation results show that the Asia Culture Center positively affects leisure satisfaction and engagement of individuals living in Gwangju in arts and culture. The results are robust under various specifications. It suggests that cultural institutions' geographical distribution considerably affects both the engagement and satisfaction of individuals living in the region.

본 연구는 문화 기관 설립이 문화예술 참여와 여가의 만족도에 미친 영향을 다룬다. 연구 대상은 한국의 대표적 문화 기관 가운데 하나인 국립아시아문화전당이다. 영향을 추정하기 위해서 약 41만 개의 개인 응답 자료를 사용하여 이중차분법을 적용하였다. 추정 결과는 국립아시아문화전당이 광주 주민들의 문화 예술 참여 및 여가 만족도에 긍정적 영향을 준다는 것을 보여주었다. 동 결과는 다양한 모형설정에서 강건하다. 이는 문화 기관의 지리적 분포가 지역민의 문화예술 참여 및 여가 만족도에 상당한 영향을 미친다는 것을 시사한다.
