Although Hong Se-tae did not dream of a transformation while witnessing all kinds of absurdities in society, he has been making lifelong efforts to pay attention to reality and to improve awareness and status of the Yeohang Literature. His creative activities were when Yeohang Literature emerged in literary history. 洪世泰는 비록 당대 사회의 온갖 부조리를 목격하면서 변혁까지는 꿈꾸지 않았지만 현실 을 주목하고 閭巷계층과 그 문학에 대한 인지도와 위상을 향상시키는 데 필생의 노력을 해왔 던 인물이다. 洪世泰가 창작활동을 전개하던 때는 문학사적으로 閭巷문학이 擡頭하던 시기였 다. 洪世泰의 天機論적 詩學觀은 閭巷文學에 대해 문예미학의 측면에서 性情之眞을 통한 미 학적 풍격과 문학의 완성도를 가려 볼 수 있도록 하는 외에 無慾의 心性을 통한 창작성향도 짚어볼 수 있는 가능성을 제시한다. 이러한 연고로 閭巷文學과 士大夫문학은 또 하나의 평가 지평을 확보했다고 할 수 있는바 閭巷人들이 慾望의 有無를 통해 사회적 신분과 계층을 가리 고 나아가 이를 文藝理論의 範疇에까지 도입한 것은 閭巷文學의 사회적 효용을 조명하는 데 이론적 근거로 될 것이다. 한마디로 性情之眞과 無慾의 心性은 閭巷人들이 주장한 天機論의 내포를 한층 풍부히 했고 閭巷文學을 보다 폭넓고 심도 있게 연구하는 데 또 하나의 이론적 근거를 제공한 것으로 된다. 洪世泰를 망라한 閭巷문인들은 비록 처했던 시대의 신분적 불평 등을 망라한 제반 모순을 정치적ㆍ사회적 안목으로 觀照하기는 했지만 적극적인 해결을 모색 하기보다는 문예적으로 연화시켜 창작성향에 그쳤다. 비록 제한된 先進性밖에 띠고 있지 않 지만 無慾의 心性을 통한 人格平等 주장과 인간 도덕성의 고양은 조선후기라는 역사적 단계 에서 사회적 인간으로서의 個性회복과 도덕의식을 깨우치는 데서 적극적인 추진역할을 발휘 했다.
