The purpose of this study explores the relationship between contemporary dance and feminism, and examines the influence of feminism on the aesthetic and practice of dance. This study was conducted through literature review and case study. I discussed the relationship between feminism and dance through the feminist’s movement and theory developed by Donna Haraway, Elizabeth Grosz, and Judith Butler. The case analysis of this study, I choose two contemporary choreographers, Mette Ingvartsen and Jeremy Wade. Ingvartsen’s <69 Position> deals with the performances related to nudity and focuses on the socio-cultural environment in which the search for the relationship between politics and sexuality is mainly carried out over time. Ingvartsen’s feminist approach consists of exploring the relationship between the sexed body and society, capital, and politics. Wade propose the role of art as a sustainable practice through curation covering the political performance of queer, women, and people with disabilities in the project called “Future Clinic for Critical Care(FCCC).” Wade’s queering strategy means discovering social problems with minorities and driving political mobilization on them. In this paper, I approach the knowledge of choreography in a way differing from the knowledge built on the patriarchal history. This research suggests that feminism is expected to exist as a source of undiscovered identities and opens up new possibilities for research and creation.

본 연구는 컨템퍼러리 댄스와 페미니즘의 관계성을 탐색하고 페미니즘과 안무의 미학적, 정치적 개념 및 실천의 관계를 살피는 것에 목적이 있다. 문헌연구를 통해 도나 해러웨이(Donna Haraway), 엘 리자베스 그로츠(Elizabeth Grosz), 주디스 버틀러(Judith Butler)의 페미니즘 개념을 컨템퍼러리 댄스 와 교차 논의했으며, 사례연구를 통해 안무가의 실천에서 페미니즘적 미학을 발견하고자 했다. 컨템퍼 러리 댄스의 페미니즘적 미학의 개념은 첫째, 신체를 하나의 물질로 다루는 육체성의 개념으로, 인간의 육체를 공연의 재료로 고려하는 것을 의미한다. 둘째, 신체를 주체적으로 움직이게 하는 과정으로서 안무를 바라보며 안무에서의 수행성을 강조한다. 셋째, 반규범적, 비정상성의 개념은 이분화된 성별로 부터 발생하는 정치와 몸의 이미지를 구성하는 이데올로기적인 관계들과 이성애적인 규범에서 구축된 춤의 본질을 검토하는 것이다. 사례연구는 메테 잉바르첸(Mette Ingvartsen)와 제레미 웨이드(Jeremy Wade)의 작업을 대상으로 페 미니즘의 관점을 토대로 안무의 방법, 작업의 과정, 작품의 비평, 예술가의 성찰 등의 실천적 지식을 논의했다. 잉바르첸의 <69 Position>은 퍼포먼스에서 섹슈얼리티와 누디티를 재현하는 방식에 관해 사회문화적 환경에 초점을 맞춘다. 이는 성과 권력의 문제에 안무적으로 접근하며 컨템퍼러리 댄스에서 몸의 정치를 자본의 영역까지 확장한 것에 의미가 있다. 웨이드의 ‘Future Clinic for Critical Care(FCCC)’에서 퀴어적인 전략은 소수자들의 연대를 통한 공공의 문제에 접근하는 예술의 정치적 행위에 초점을 맞춘다. 본 연구를 통해 가부장적, 이성애중심적인 역사적 토대에서 구축된 지식과 관점과 다른 방식으로 춤과 안무의 지식에 접근하고, 페미니즘이 컨템퍼러리 안무와 담론 생산에 중요한 영향을 주었음을 밝 히고자 했다.
