This research is to derive the relationship between Scott Nearing’s educational philosophy and holistic education. The purpose of the research is to propose a new alternative paradigm to realize the essential purpose of education. Holistic education is a future-oriented education transformation movement. Recently, holistic education has been widely applied in the education research. Research method, a literature research method based on qualitative Meta-synthesis. The core of Scott Nearing’s educational philosophy is leaner-centered education, healthy life, cultivation of capabilities for the future life. Scott Nearing's educational philosophy had considerable similarities to holistic education. This research can propose a new alternative paradigm for solving the educational problems that the Korea education. It can also contribute to the education for social responsibility.

이 연구의 목적은 스콧 니어링(Scott Nearing)의 교육사상과 홀리스틱 교육이 가지는 관계성을 도 출하고, 교육의 본질적 목적실현을 위한 새로운 대안적 패러다임을 제안하는 것이다. 홀리스틱 교육 (Holistic Education)은 20세기 후반 시작된 미래지향적 교육전환운동으로 최근 교육학 분야에 폭넓게 적용되는 경향을 보인다. 이 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 스콧 니어링의 교육사상을 홀리스틱 교육의 관점에서 바라보고자 질적메타분석을 참고하여, 적합하게 수정한 문헌연구방법을 적용하였 다. 연구결과, 스콧 니어링의 교육사상의 핵심은 자율적 학습, 건강한 삶, 미래사회 역량을 함양시키 기 위함이었으며, 특히 삶을 위한 교육을 실현하고자 하였다는 점에서 홀리스틱 교육과 깊은 연관 이 있음이 확인되었다. 스콧 니어링의 교육사상과 홀리스틱 교육의 관계를 고찰하는 것에 중점을 두고 실시된 이 연구는 한국 교육계가 오랜 기간 겪어온 교육문제 해소와 교육의 사회적 책임 실현 을 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
