In this study, the role of uniforms was examined by organizing the changes in uniforms of Korean airlines except Korean Air, and the components were identified by considering the motifs of uniform design. The research method is a literature study and interviews with flight experts. The subjects of the study are uniforms of Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Jeju Air, Air Busan, Eastar Jet, Jin Air, T'way Airlines, Air Seoul, and Fly Gangwon. The scope of the study was female cabin crews’s uniforms. According to the study, the motifs of uniform design were “traditional culture (traditional color, traditional form)”, “regional characteristics (regional natural objects, regional animals and plants)” and “airplane form (tail wings).” Traditional culture was mainly derived from FSC (Full Service Carrier) uniforms, regional characteristics from LCC (Low Cost Carrier) uniforms, and airplane forms from FSC uniforms. Finally, it is hoped that various studies on crew uniforms will be conducted, including a study on the change of Korean Air uniforms not covered in this study.

적어도 2,500여 년 전부터 입은 유니폼을 정의하자면 ‘여러 사람이 어떤 목적을 위해 입는 같은 모양의 옷’이라 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 대한항공을 제외한 국내항공사 유니폼의 변천을 정리하여 유니폼의 역할을 살펴보고, 유니폼 디자인의 모티브를 고찰하여 구성요인을 파악하였다. 연구방법은, 각종 매체와 선행연구의 문헌연구와 승무원 출신 항공전문가와의 인터뷰이다. 연구대상은 국내항공사인 대한항공, 아시아나항공, 제주항공, 에어부산, 이스타항공, 진에어, 티웨이항공, 에어서울, 플라이강원(설립 순)의 유니폼이다. 연구범위는 코트를 제외한 9개 항공사의 여승무원 유니폼으로 한정 지었다. 연구결과, 유니폼 디자인의 모티브는 ‘전통문화(전통색상, 전통형태)’, ‘지역적 특성(지역 자연물, 지역 동식물)’, ‘비행기 형태(꼬리 날개)’의 세 가지로 나타났다. 전통문화는 주로 FSC 유니폼에서, 지역적 특성은 모두 LCC 유니폼에서, 비행기 형태는 모두 FSC 유니폼에서 추출되었다. 끝으로, 본 연구에서 다루지 않은 대한항공 유니폼 변천에 관한 연구 등 승무원 유니폼에 관한 다각도의 연구가 수행되길 바란다.
