This study is aimed at suggesting the development direction of gender equality education by analyzing the trends and major issues of gender equality education in various ways. We would like to discuss strategic concerns that define the related concepts of gender equality education and induce gender change inherent in our society. Most of all, the role of school education is important to elicit mature gender sensitivity and gender equality. Through this study, patriarchal practices and rigid school culture need to be improved, and in particular, sexist texts and illustrations in textbooks are ordered to reflect gender sensitivity. Furthermore, it was confirmed that fundamental innovation in the underdeveloped education administration system is needed. Above all, through this study, the last names of teachers in the schools in charge of student education, including educational policymakers.

이 연구는 우리나라 성 평등 교육의 동향과 주요 쟁점을 다각도로 분석하여 발전 방향을 제안하고자 수행되었다. 성 평등 교육의 관련 개념을 정의하고 우리 사회에 내재하고 있는 젠더의 변화를 유도하는 전략적인 고민들을 논의하고자 한다. 무엇보다 성숙한 성인지 감수성과 성 평등을 이끌어내기 위하여 학교교육의 역할이 중요함을 지적하면서 각종 교과서의 성 불평등 관련 내용의 몇 가지 사례를 제시하여 우리 사회가 당면하고 있는 성인지의 관념에 대한 비판적 논의들을 유도하고 이를 통하여 미래지향적인 성 평등 교육의 방향을 제안하고자 하였다. 이 연구를 통하여 교과서의 성 차별적인 내용의 개선을 비롯하여 성 차별적인 여러 가지 학교 문화의 변화 필요성을 지적하였으며, 특히 교과서의 성차별적인 지문과 삽화가 성인지 감수성을 반영하도록 주문하고 있다. 나아가 낙후한 교육행정체계에 대한 근본적인 혁신이 필요함을 확인하였다. 무엇보다 이 연구를 통하여 교육정책 입안자들을 포함하여 직접 학생 교육을 담당하고 있는 일선 학교의 교원들의 성인지 감수성 증진과 성 평등 인식에 대한 적극적이고 전향적인 자세가 필요함을 확인할 수 있었다.
