Fashion was also influenced by Soul, and the spirit of resistance and passionate image of Soul had a considerable influence on downtown fashion and designer brands with kitsch motifs. In recent years, luxury brands have also expanded their range by refining and using soul styles to suit their luxurious images. Soul tried to express its resistance not only in music but also in styles such as dance and fashion. Soul fashion was a type of expression for the intangible power of unity and resistance consciousness of black Americans. Especially, soul music, which is characterized by passionate performance and explosive singing ability of vocalists, has had a great influence on raising the consciousness of resistance to mainstream white society by echoing the emotions of black people who have lived a heartbreaking life. In the 1970s, it emerged as a style symbolizing demonstrations with Bohemian style. In the 2000s, hip-hop, which inherited Soul’s resistance spirit, solidified its position as a more influential fashion style in popular fashion, and luxury brands began to apply hip-hop fashion elements to their products, and became incorporated into the mainstream of fashion from the symbol of subculture, which was regarded as streetwear only.
