This study analyzed how police officers’ trust on residents affects their acceptance level of community policing, measuring both police officers’ acceptance level of community policing and trust level on residents. The data for this study were collected through surveys conducted on local police officers working for Busan Metropolitan City. Police officers’ overall acceptance on community policing was 3.5 on the 5-points scale. Specifically, the acceptance level of police decentralization and collaborate prevention were relatively high with means of 3.98 and 3.72 respectively. On the contrary, the acceptance level of security service was quite low with means of 2.71. The means of three items measuring police officers’ trust level on residents were lower than average, which means police officers’ overall trust level on residents is not that high. In the multi-regression analysis, it was found that police officers’ trust on residents has an positive influence on acceptance level of community policing with other variables including self-efficacy and gaol internalization. Based upon these results, this study stressed the need for ways to improve police officers’ trust level on residents in the conclusion.

본 연구는 경찰관의 주민에 대한 신뢰정도가 지역사회경찰활동의 수용도에 어떠한 영 향을 미치는지를 분석하기 위하여 부산광역시 순찰지구대에 근무하는 지역경찰관들을 대 상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 부산지역 경찰관의 지역사회경찰활동에 대한 전반적인 수 용도는 5점 척도 기준으로 평균 3.51 정도이고 세부요소별로는 경찰분권화와 협력예방의 평균은 각각 3.98과 3.72로서 비교적 높은 편이나 치안서비스는 2.71로서 부정적으로 나타 났다. 주민에 대한 신뢰도는 주민과의 업무에 관한 소통정도, 주민에 대한 신뢰감 등의 문항 모두에서 평균이 3.0 이하에 머무르고 있어 경찰관들의 주민에 대한 신뢰가 전반적 으로 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 주민에 대한 신뢰정도가 지역사회경찰활동의 수용도에 어떠 한 영향을 미치는지를 알아보기 위해 실시한 다중회귀분석에서는 경찰관의 주민에 대한 신뢰는 자아효능감과 목표내면화와 함께 종속변수인 지역사회경찰활동의 수용도에 유의 미한 영향을 미치고 그 영향력의 크기 또한 상당한 것으로 나타났다. 본 논문은 상기 분 석결과를 기초로 해서 경찰관의 주민에 대한 신뢰를 제고하기 위한 방안의 모색이 필요 함을 강조하였다.
