What changes and echoes can the philosophy of other on Emmanuel Levinas provide in our lives? In order to meet our concrete reality to the other and ethics he emphasizes, what translation and transformation should be done? As you know, Levinas insisted on my infinite, irreplaceable and unassailable responsibility for the other. Because of this, Levinas’s philosophy was considered never to fit into our political reality of democracy and was even judged anti-political. But Levinas never overlooked our reality and the importance of politics in our reality. This paper corresponds to the preliminary stage in the first attempt to comprehensively examine Levinas and Enrique Dussel who said he had awakened from the “sleep of dogmatism” by Levinas. It aims to identify the philosophical career of Dussel and the position of Levinas in it. As we will look forward, Dussel’s philosophical career was both intelligent and practical to change and reform his time. Dussel, who lived as a single practitioner and thinker in the special reality of 20th-century Latin America, deeply intervened in the popular liberation movement, social movement, and decolonization movement and tried to philosophically theorize their movement. We will examine how Dussel’s philosophical career progressed, and how Levinas’s ethics affected there. It is important to confirm what Dussel studied through Martin Heidegger and Paul Ricoeur, and at what point he broke up with them and referred to Levinas. This work is not only to confirm the goals and ideologies of the philosophy of liberation, but also to see how Levinas’s philosophy can be accepted in reality, and how and why it has to change there.

레비나스의 타자철학은 우리의 삶에 어떤 변화와 울림을 제공할 수 있을까? 그가 강 조하는 타자와 윤리가 우리의 구체적 현실과 대면하기 위해선, 어떤 번역과 변형이, 보충 과 발전이 이뤄져야 할까? 알다시피 레비나스는 타자에 대한 무한한 책임을, 대체 불가 능하고 통약 불가능한 나의 책임을 주장했다. 더군다나 그의 논의의 핵심에는 나와 타자 의 대면적 관계가, 보편화 불가능한 독특한 관계가, 그러면서도 나에 대한 타자의 우위를 인정하는 비대칭적 관계가 놓여 있다. 그런 탓에 레비나스의 철학은 민주주의라는 우리 의 정치 현실에 어울리지 않는 것으로 여겨졌고 심지어 반(反)정치적이라는 평가를 받기 도 했다. 하지만 레비나스는 결코 우리의 현실을, 또 우리의 현실 속에서 정치가 갖는 중 요성을 간과하지 않았다. 그가 비판하는 것은 “그 자신에 내맡겨진 정치”, 이 정치가 “보 편적인 것의, 그리고 비인격적인 것의 전제정치”로 귀결될 가능성이다. 본 논문은 레비나스와, 그를 통해 ‘독단론의 잠’에서 깨어났다고 술회한 해방철학자 엔리케 두셀을 종합적으로 검토하려는 최초의 시도 중 예비 단계에 해당하는 것으로서, 두셀의 철학적 여정 및 거기서 레비나스가 차지하는 위치를 확인하는 것을 목표로 한다. 두셀의 철학적 여정은 지적인 것인 동시에 자신의 시대를 변화 개혁하려는 실천적인 것 이었다. 20세기 라틴아메리카라는 특수한 현실 속에서 한 명의 실천가로서 또 사상가로 서 살았던 두셀은 민중해방운동이나 사회운동, 탈식민운동에 깊숙이 개입하면서 그 운 동을 철학적으로 이론화하려 했다. 우리는 두셀의 철학적 여정이 어떻게 진행되었는지 를, 또 거기서 레비나스의 타자철학이 어떤 영향을 미쳤는지를 검토할 것이다. 두셀이 하이데거나 리쾨르에서 무엇을 받아들였는지, 또 어떤 점에서 그들과 결별하고 레비나스 를 참조했는지를 밝히는 일은 해방철학의 목표나 방향성을 검토하는 일일 뿐 아니라 레 비나스의 타자철학이 어떻게 현실 속에서 수용될 수 있는지를 확인하는 일이기도 하다.
