『Yesu-Haengjeok-Ginyeom-Si』 has not been well known so far compared to Gale's other works due to its short volume of 14-page volume and rare raw materials. The book's English title is The Life of Christ in Verse and was published in 1911 by the ‘The Religious Tract Society’ in Gyeong-Seong. In "The Poetry of the Performing Arts," Gale compiled the story of Jesus into a short story in the form of a traditional Korean poem, by reciting, memorizing and it’s allows to be understood through the story of the Gospel, which was characterized by the re-construction of the Gospel as a clear style of lyric literature. 『Yesu-Haengjeok-Ginyeom-Si』 was composed of 16 quatrains of eight Chinese characters phrase and 52 verses in total, and the corresponding scripture is written through the interpretation department related phrase. Gale and Lee Chang-Jik wanted to achieve through these works, is to help readers listeners, to read and sing to get comfort, joy, and ultimately have a deep and mature spirituality. Built specifically for the purpose of evangelism and religious education, 『Yesu-Haengjeo-Ginyeomsi』 draws the reader's interest and interest through compressed quatrain and omissions, and by making excuses for necessary phrases. This study introduces the intention to write 『Yesu-Haengjeok- Ginyeom-Si』 and Gail's efforts will to become proficient in the local language of a mission field. And The text which is reorganized into Chinese characters, and the full text and interpretation of the book are reviewed in detail. Although the work was published 12 years earlier than 『Yeon-Gyeong-Jwa-Dam』, there was a lack of related research. This study will be meaningful in that it served as an opportunity to promote 『Yesu-Haengjeok-Ginyeom-Si』.

『예수행젹긔념시』는 14쪽의 짧은 분량과 원자료의 희소성으로 인해 게 일의 다른 저작에 비해 지금까지 잘 알려지지 못하였다. 이 책의 영문 표제 는 The Life of Christ in Verse이며 경성 예수교서회에서 1911년에 간행되 었다. 게일은 『예수행젹긔념시』에서 예수의 이야기를 시조의 형태의 짧은 줄거리로 엮어, 낭송하고 암송하며 복음서의 이야기를 관통해 이해할 수 있게 하였는데 그 특징은 공관복음서를 일목요연한 가사체 문학으로 재구 성한 것이라 하겠다. 『예수행젹긔념시』는 8언절구의 16행, 총 52절의 본문으로 되어있고 이 에 대한 해석부를 통해 해당 성구를 병기하는 구성으로 되어있다. 게일과 이창직이 이러한 작업을 통해 이루고자 한 것은 독자들이 이것을 읽고 듣 고 부르는 가운데 위로를 받고 기쁨을 얻으며 궁극적으로 깊고 성숙한 영 성을 갖도록 도움을 주기 위함이었다. 특별히 전도와 신앙교육의 목적으로 서의 『예수행젹긔념시』는 압축된 절구, 생략을 통한 초점화, 필요한 구절의 변개(變改)를 통해 독자의 흥미와 관심을 이끈다. 본 연구는 『예수행젹긔념시』의 저작 의도와 과정, 선교지 사람들과 동 일화되고자 하였던 게일의 노력, 본서의 전문과 해석을 소개하고 한자로 재정리된 본문을 통해 그 의미를 자세히 살펴본다. 『연경좌담』보다 12년을 먼저 간행된 가사문학 저작임에도 이에 대한 관련자료가 부족하였는데 이 연구가 『예수행젹긔념시』를 알리는 첫 계기가 될 것이라는 점에 그 의의를 두고자 한다.
