This study illustrates the current status of remote interpreting and challenges it poses to the traditional interpretation market. Throughout the year 2020, the world has gone through the unexpected war against Covid-19 virus. Lots of lockdowns have been executed around the globe to prevent the spread of the virus. As a result of the lockdowns and restraints on overseas travel, most of the traditional face-to-face international conferences have been canceled. As the war against the Covid-19 has turned into a long-term game, on-line conferences starts to take roots as the major mode of the international conferences. Interpreters and interpretation service providers and technical staffs had to cope with the unexpected and unprepared situation of remote interpretation which has not been practiced much in the conference settings in Korea. This paper tries to explore what has not been considered and what needs to be done regarding the remote interpreting from the perspectives of an interpreter, an interpretation service provider(agency), a technical expert and an interpretation educator.
