This thesis explores the problem of the existence of the subject and utopia consciousness in Park Beom-shin’s novel. A series of novels that reveal the prospects of utopian/dystopian thinking reveal the contradictions of modern capitalism. It looks like a critical discourse of capitalism, which is familiar in modern novels, but rather reveals the emotional empathy of the subject in crisis of oblivion of recognition and the perception of the utopian world as an alternative to overcome contradictions. Therefore, love, recognition, and empathy are not simply romantic rhetoric, but presented as a concrete way to overcome certain hostile relationships, and as individual emotional beings that recognize others as unique beings, they recognize others as valuable members of the community. It opens the possibility of ‘social solidarity’. To regard his way of love as a stupid and lowly romantic taste, alienated from both intellectual power and political power, is an excessive reduction of the meaning of its practice. Park Beom-shin’s love, which was regarded as popular, can be said to be a utopian practice of the subject in the method of forcing the structural subordination of capitalism. Park Beom-shin’s utopian thinking does not envision any justifiable social image that needs to be realized as it is while imagining and constructing it as a concrete space such as hometown or city. It shows the birth of an ethical subject to overcome the tragic society that inflicts violence of neglect as a kind of self-healing process that responds to weakened self-esteem rather than selfish actions to protect one’s own interests while harming others.
