In the age of ‘jobless growth’, Korean government implemented various policies to promote starting new businesses considering startups as a solution. Due to these endeavor, the numbers of startup have grown rapidly but the economic results from them were not so rigorous. With the growth of new businesses, the success factors of startup gained more research interests. Despite the raised interests, little share of these interests are given to the initial failure of the startups. This study is differentiated from prior research from 2 facets. This study was performed by using the data gained from 28 startups who experienced initial failures and success from second chances. This study adopted LDA topic modeling technique to analyzed text data. 19 topics are extracted from topic modeling and implications and limitations were discussed.

‘고용없는 성장’ 현상이 심각해지면서 우리나라 정부는 ‘창업’을 해법으로 보고 다양한 정책을 시행하며 창업을 촉진하고 있다. 이러한 노력에 힘입어 우리나라의 창업은 양적으로는 크게 성장하였으나 높은 폐업률 등 질적인 성과는 아쉬움이 많은 것도 사실이다. 창업이 활성화되면서 창업 기업에 대한 연구도 활성화되었지만, 창업 기업의 상당수가 경험하는 실패에 대한 연구관심은 상대적으로 낮았다. 본 연구는 창업 과정에서 실패를 경험했다가 재도전을 통해 성공하게 된 기업 사례들의 성공요인을 분석하였다. 본 연구는 실패를 극복하고 재기에 성공한 기업들을 대상으로 수행되었다는 점과 텍스트(비정형) 자료를 토픽모델링 기법으로 분석하여 재창업 성공요인을 도출했다는 점에서 기존의 연구들과는 구별된다. 연구결과, 28개의 재창업 성공 기업들로부터 덕업일치, 시장지향성 확보 등 19개의 재창업 성공요인을 도출했다. 본 연구가 사용한 방법론을 더 많은 후속연구들이 채택하면 창업 연구의 발전에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 전망된다.
