The purpose of this study was to examine the research trend in public administration in Jeonbuk Province from March 1973 to June 2020, focusing on who the researchers were, what subject matters they were interested in and what methodology they adopted. The data for the study were collected from the interviews and e-mail exchanges with the faculty members in the Departments of Public Administration in Jeonbuk Province, the website of the Korea Research Foundation, the Korean Journal of Local Government Administrative Studies and the Ten Year History of JeonJu Wooseok University. The data collection took place from January to October 2020. The study showed that the researchers in public administration in Jeonbuk Province graduated from various colleges and graduate schools. Most of them got their doctoral degree from the universities in Korea. They did not publish their research papers in major Journals such as the Korean Public Administration Review and the Korean Policy Studies Review. Their research interests were generally in line with the national trend, which was increasingly focused on policy issues, quantitative study and prescriptive outcomes. The findings further indicated that the researchers in Jeonbuk Province were less interested in normative study. Based on these findings, the paper discussed the meaning of studying public administration in Jeonbuk Province, the harmony between studying and living, and re-examination of the contribution of scholars with many research achievements and the revitalization of normative research in public administration to realize public values.

이글의 목적은 전북 지역 행정학자들은 누구이며 무엇을 어떻게 연구하였나에 답하는 것이다. 연 구대상 시기는 1973년3월부터 2020년6월까지이다. 연구에 필요한 자료는 전북 지역 행정학 관련 학 과 교수와의 면담과 서신, 한국연구재단 홈페이지,「한국자치행정학보」, 「전주우석대학10년사」 등으로부터 수집되었다. 자료 수집은 2020년 1월부터 10월까지 이루어졌다. 조사결과 전북 지역 행정학자는 출신 학부, 대학원 등이 다양하였다. 박사학위는 국내 취득자가 대다수였다. 이들은 한국행정학보와 한국정책학보에 논문게재 활동을 적게 하였다. 또 이들이 작성 한 논문의 경향은 전국의 그것과 대개 유사하였다. 정책에 대한 연구와 양적 연구가 증가하였고 처 방적 연구 많다는 의미에서 그러하다. 본고에서는 초창기 학자와 업적이 많은 학자의 연구경향을 간략하게 살펴보았다. 전북 지역 행정학자는 규범적 연구를 적게 하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연 구에 기초하여 본고는 전북 지역 행정학자의 존재 의미, 학문과 삶의 조화, 연구업적이 많은 행정학 자에 대한 재조명, 공공가치를 실현하는 좋은 행정을 위한 규범적 연구의 활성화 등을 논의하였다.
