This study is about the direction of growth in Korean defense industry Exports. South Korea's defense industry has grown over the past 50 years, and “Defense Reform 2.0” recognizes the defense industry as one of the ways for strengthening defense capabilities. However, it is also true that the defense industry is suffering from falling sales and the global economic downturn. As overseas demand grows, it is timely to examine the gap between export policy and reality. After then, it is necessary to discuss the direction of growth. Unlike previous studies, this study conducted empirical analysis on the growth of Korean defense industry exports using economic analysis models that take into account supply and demand aspects based on time series data. In other words, the decision factors were set and models were constructed based on the Cobb-Douglas production function and Mundell-Fleming model. As a result of the analysis, the factors that significantly affect the growth of Korean defense industry exports were the number of workers in the defense industry, world military expenditure, real effective exchange rate and economy crisis. The implications were divided into the government and the defense industry. If the policy and management direction are set based on the analysis and implications of this study, it is expected that Korean defense industry exports will continue to grow.

한국 방위산업은 지난 50년간 성장을 거듭했으며, “국방개혁 2.0”은 방위산업을 국방력 강화를 위한 한 축으로 인정하 고 있다. 하지만, 최근 매출액 감소와 세계 경기 침체 등으로 방위산업계가 어려움을 겪고 있는 것도 사실이다. 따라서 해 외시장에 대한 수요가 늘어가고 있는 가운데, 이에 대한 정책 목표와 현실의 괴리를 점검하고 성장 방향을 모색하는 것은 시의적절하다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 기존 연구와는 다르게 한국 방위산업 수출 성장에 대해 시계열 자료를 기반으로 공급 과 수요 측면을 고려한 경제 모형을 구성하여 실증분석을 했다. 즉, 콥-더글러스(Cobb-Douglas) 생산함수와 먼델-플레밍 (Mundell-Fleming) 모형을 기반으로 결정요인을 설정하고 모형을 구성한 것이다. 분석 결과로는, 방위산업 수출 성장에 유 의한 영향을 미치는 요인은 방위산업체 종사자 수(+), 세계 국방비 지출(+), 실질 실효 환율(-), 경제 위기(-)였다. 이에 따른 시사점은 정부와 방위산업계로 나누어 제시하였다. 따라서 본 연구를 통해 밝혀진 분석 결과와 시사점을 바탕으로 정책과 경 영 방향을 설정해나간다면, 한국 방위산업의 수출은 지속적으로 성장할 수 있을 것이라 기대된다.
