This article is written with the aim of tracking down the various aspects of Western imperialism's invasion of the East and the terminal confusion that produced in Kim Kirim's long poem "Weather Map(｢기상도｣)". Specifically, it is understood that the content presented in Chapter 4 of “Trace(<자최>)” of “Weather Map” contains sharp criticism and satire on the concessions (settlements) of Western powers that were established in China at the time. Therefore, based on the precise historical evidences and the collection of historical materials, I wrote as follows. 1) the solidification of the dominant and governed structures created by the gap between the longing for wonderful modern Western life and poor reality, 2) the language of ruler and the one-sided coercion towards others caused by the establishment of unequal relationships, 3) the world of disorder and illegality, overflowing with prostitution and opium(or drugs), 4) Warnings for the upcoming war and the causes and problems of confusion in a crisis situation. I found that he criticized the reality in and outside of concession through these contents. Through these critical perspectives, Kim Kirim attempted to accuse the concession as a blind spot of civilization that clearly reflects the duality of imperialist powers and the terminal contradiction of modern capitalism.

이 논문은 김기림의 장시 ｢기상도｣에 등장하는 서구 제국주의의 동양 침략의 제 양상과 그것이 낳은 말기적 혼란상을 추적하여 정리하기 위한 목적에서 작성된 것이다. 구체적으로 ｢기상도｣의 제4부 <자최> 부분에 제시된 내용을 주목하였는바, 이 부분은 당시 중국 내에 설치되었던 서구 열강들의 조계지에 대한 예리한 비판과 풍자를 담고 있는 것으로 이해된다. 이에 필자는 정밀한 고증과 당대 사료에 대한 세부적인 수집을 바탕으로 다음과 같은 내용이 제시되어 있음을 입증하였다. 1) 화려한 근대적 서구식 생활에 대한 동경과 열악한 현실 사이 의 간극이 빚어낸 동서양 간의 지배, 피지배 구조의 고착화 2) 불평등한 관계 설정을 더욱 공 고화하기 위해 동원된 지배자의 언어와 사고, 그리고 지식과 학문의 타락상 3) 매춘과 아편 (혹은 마약) 등이 범람하는 무법천지의 세계 4) 다가올 전란에 대한 경고와 이러한 위기적 상 황을 초래하게 된 근본 원인 및 문제점. 다시 말해서 김기림은 이러한 내용들을 통해 조계 안팎의 현실을 강하게 비판하였다. 아울러 이와 같은 방식으로 비판적 시각을 확보함으로써 김기림은 조계가 제국주의 열강들의 이중성과 근대 자본주의의 말기적 모순이 적나라하게 반 영된 문명의 사각지대임을 고발하고자 했던 것이다.
