As English language teacher associations (ELTAs) have become more numerous and firmly established, they have been engaging in more regular professional development activities. National ELTAs, in particular, have increasingly been hosting international conferences (ICs). Yet, researchers have rarely focused their attention on ELTAs or their conferences, although doing so could offer insights. To fill the gap, this exploratory study aims to learn about national ELTAs across East and South Asia and their ICs by examining conference themes (CTs) over the past decade. Through an evaluation of the CT data collection process and subsequent analysis of the data using primarily Voyant Tools (v. 2.4), this mixed-methods study sheds light on the international presence of national ELTAs and the format and content of their international CTs. Results reveal commonalities and differences between the ELTAs, and the implications could influence decision-making and impact conference agendas.
