This paper aims to reconfigure Spinoza’s reading of Hegel, responding to Hegel’s reading of Spinoza; in so doing this paper elicits identity and difference of the two philosopher’s thoughts. The principle of ‘absolute intelligibility’ was one of the motives that led two philosopher’s work. They have elaborated this common principle while confronting respectively the dualism of Descartes and that of Kant. However, they reached to divergent conclusions in terms of overcoming the dualism between spirit and matter, subjective and objective, freedom and necessity, God and Nature. This is because they was working in the different problematics and theoretical environments surrounding their philospohical projects. For Spinoza, it was important to overthrow the old paradigm of spirit’s superiority over body. He attempted therefore to provide the metaphysical basis of modernity of liberty and equality through the thesis of parallelism that ‘the body is same as the spirit’. In contrast, the central problematic of Hegel living in the late 18th and 19th century was to give a new metaphysics uniting fragmented world in organic whole. One could say that this organic view of the world that Hegel had in common with his contemporaries led him to develop the absolute idealism.

본 논문의 목적은, 헤겔의 스피노자 해석을 검토하고 그에 상응하게 ‘스피노자의 헤겔 독해’를 재구성해 봄으로써, 결론적으로 두 철학자 사이에 존재하는 동일성과 차이가 무엇 인지를 밝히는 것이다. 두 철학자를 이끌었던 중요한 모티브 가운데 하나는 ‘절대적 이해 가능성’의 원리였다. 이것은 그들이 각각 데카르트와 칸트의 이원론을 비판적으로 마주하면 서 구상한 철학적 기획이었다. 그런데 그들에게 공통의 과제였던 정신과 물질, 주관과 객관, 자유와 필연성, 신과 자연의 이원론의 극복은 상이한 결론에 이르게 된다. 이 공통의 기획을 이끌었던 문제의식과 환경이 달랐기 때문이다. 스피노자에게는 신체에 대한 정신의 우위와 지배라는 낡은 패러다임의 혁신이 무엇보다 도 중요했다. 그는 ‘물체는 정신과 같다’는 평행론의 논제를 통해 자유와 평등의 모더니티에 형이상학적 토대를 제공하고자 했다. 반대로 18-19세기의 헤겔에게 중요했던 것은 무미건 조하고 파편화된 세계의 유기적 통합이었다. 헤겔의 동시대인들이 공유했던 유기체론은 그 를 관념론의 길로 인도하게 된다.
