Okakura Tenshin’s exploration of Japanese aesthetics showed the process of evolving by period. With the passage of time, his vision expanded and changed from the time when Japanese aesthetics were inductively extracted from the artistic objects, combined with nationalism or Asianism. In terms of time, the aesthetic consciousness of each period, leading to the Heian period, Kamakura period, Muromachi and Momoyama period, was shown in order, as if it were in order. In the first period, as revealed in the lecture , the grace induced through Japanese art history was identified as a central feature of Japanese aesthetics, and in the second period, it was combined with nationalism, and history painting as an art genre, and Samurai spirit was emphasized in aesthetics. In the third period, it was expanded to Asia and attempted to place Japanese aesthetics in the entire Asian civilization centering on of aesthetic consciousness of Tea ceremony as in The Book of Tea.
