In 2018, UNESCO recommended that Japan's “Raiho-shin(visiting gods), rituals of deities in masks and costumes” be registered as human intangible cultural heritage. From Namahage in Akita Prefecture to Toshidon in Miyakojima and Pantu in and Kagoshima, the most representative events of visiting gods are organized throughout Japan. In the Raiho-shin event, a strange-looking god goes around each house, blesses people, and warns lazy people. Such rituals solidify the unity of the region and pass on generations and it strongly embraces the identity of the region. Furthermore, after the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Registration Recommendation, it may be functioning as tourism content that represents the region. Although they were taken to different places at different times in each region, the number of tourists is increasing every year in order to view and participate in Raiho-shin rituals, which has a great impact on the tourism industry in that region. There was not much participation of outsiders due to the influence of covid 19 this year, but rather, in these disaster situations, discussions focused on the use of these rituals as a measure to strengthen the cohesiveness of the local community.

2018년 유네스코는 일본의 “내방신․가면․가장의 신들”에 대해 인류무 형문화유산 등록을 권고했다. 여기에는 아키타현의 나마하게를 비롯해 가고 시마현의 도시돈, 오키나와 미야코지마의 판투에 이르기까지 일본 각지에 전해지는 내방신 풍습 중 가장 대표적인 행사들이 포진되어 있다. 내방신 행 사는 기괴한 모습을 한 신(神)이 집집마다 다니며 사람들을 축복해주고 게으 른 자에게 훈계를 내린다. 이런 풍속은 지역의 결속을 다지고 세대와 세대를 이어준다는 점에서 지역정체성을 강하게 내포하고 있다. 게다가 유네스코 무 형문화유산 등록 권고 이후로는 지역을 대표하는 관광 콘텐츠로서 기능을 수행하고 있기도 하다. 지역마다 다른 시기, 다른 장소에서 연행되는 이 내방 신 행사를 관람․참여하기 위해 해마다 관광객의 수가 증가하고, 해당지역의 관광산업에도 큰 영향을 끼치고 있다. 올해는 코로나의 여파로 외부인의 참여 가 그다지 많지 않았지만, 오히려 이러한 재난 상황 속에서 지역공동체의 결 속력을 강화하는 방안으로 내방신 행사가 활용되었음에 착목하여 논의를 진 행하였다.
