The purpose of this study is to establish with the right competition culture the meaning of a great Man(大丈夫) in Taekwondo competition. A great Man refers to an ideal human being with Hoyeonji. Hoyeonji has an important meaning in Mencius' theory of discipline. Therefore, this study was based on the book theory of Mencius and chose a method of reviewing previous studies. In taekwondo competitions, is a great Man a player, leader, and referee who is a person with Hoyeonji. When a player enters a competition, he tries to compete firmly without committing a foul act based on the rules of the competition, but he plays as a fidelity. Therefore, players must participate in the competition as a leader and compete fairly. Leaders trust in their athletes while keeping their principles as fidelity. He plays fair and fair in the competition, accepts the referee's decision humbly, and does not want to insult the player as a reward for the result of the competition. Therefore, the leader participates as a ledger and plays a role to the players and referees. The referee must directly lead the competition situation with correct and fair decisions. At this time, the referee must not be swayed by the temptation of the request as the chief executive, and must run the game without judgment of partiality or competition control. Therefore, it can be said that when a player, a leader, and a referee participate in or run a Taekwondo competition as a manager, the Taekwondo competition culture is settled correctly.

이 연구는 태권도 경기 구성원들의 대장부로서 의미를 밝혀 올바른 경기문화로 정착시키는 데 목적이 있다. 대장부 는 호연지기를 지닌 이상적 인간을 일컫는다. 호연지기는 맹자의 수양론에서 중요한 의미를 갖는다. 그러므로 이 연구는 맹자의 대장부론에 근거하고 선행연구를 고찰하는 방법을 택하였다. 태권도 경기에서 대장부는 호연지기를 지닌 사람으 로서 경기를 구성하는 선수, 지도자, 심판이다. 선수는 경기에 임할 때 경기규칙에 근거하여 반칙행위를 하지 않고 정당하 게 경쟁을 펼치고자 하되 지조로서 임한다. 그러므로 선수는 대장부로서 경기에 참가하여 정정당당하게 경쟁해야 되는 것이다. 지도자는 자신의 지도원칙을 지조로서 지키면서 선수력을 신뢰한다. 그는 경기에 공명정대하게 임하고 심판 판정 을 겸허히 받아들이며 경기 결과에 대한 보상으로 선수에게 물욕을 원하지 않는다. 그러므로 지도자는 대장부로서 참가해 선수와 심판에게 제 역할을 담당하는 것이다. 심판은 올바르고 공정한 판정으로 경기 진행을 직접적으로 주도해야 한다. 이때 심판은 대장부로서 청탁의 유혹에 흔들리지 않아야 하며 편파 판정이나 승부조작을 하지 않고 경기를 운영해야 한다. 따라서 선수, 지도자, 심판이 대장부로서 태권도 경기에 참가하거나 운영했을 때 태권도 경기문화는 올바르게 정착되어 나가는 것이라 할 수 있다.
